Bay Bridge Traffic On Weekends?

I saw a few posts on another thread stating that the traffic on the Bay Bridge on Fridays is actually pretty good, as opposed to last year. Is this true? How long (uaually) is the delay?

Also, posters said that there are traffic problems in both directions on Saturdays . . . Was thinking of doing a day trip from Baltimore to OC/Reho. on a Saturday . . . Is this not such a good idea?

Thanks!

Good thing there's only one Bay Bridge.

East-bound Bay Bridge is only a problem if you are approaching from Hwy. 101 or from 280. But it's not that bad from downtown SF. However, it does get clogged-up, especially after lunch, as soon as you cross the bridge and go into 80 (E or W) or any other direction in the East Bay/Emeryville area.

Now, westbound Bay Bridge from the East Bay shold be fine and smooth on a Saturday and the most traffic would be when you approach the tolls to the bridge.

Fridays have been fine. But for one Friday this summer, toll lines have been negligible. Saturdays and Sundays can be terrible, however. If you travel on a Saturday, get up with the lark and leave early.

Concerned, how long does it take to get from San Francisco to Baltimore?

It's not my question, it's the original poster's question!

The traffic on the Bay Bridge has been better this year. Unless there has been an accident, it has flowed well. Still, my advice is leave very early or very late if you want to be sure of a good trip....especially as the summer comes to a close.

i drove from the eastern shore to annapolis last saturday. i got to the bridge about 9:45a. they were using 3 lanes eastbound but some idiot was stopped with what seemed to be trailer hook-up problems at the peak of the bridge on the 3 lane span. the eastbound lane was not moving and everyone was out of their cars. so that backed up traffic. it wasn't terribly bad going eastbound otherwise (on the 2 lane span). maybe 1/2 hour delay?

i came home at 2pm. the traffic heading west over the bridge was horrible. except for a short bit where 50 and 301 merge, it was backed up to rt 404 and moving very slowly. heading eastbound, i took rt 2 south to college pkwy and then the service road past mcd's and got on a couple miles before the bridge. it was very slow moving, but the ezpass lane on the left was wide open. the 2 left toll lanes merged to one lane and the rest of the lanes merged to the other. it took me only 15 min to get through. if you didn't have ezpass, you were screwed-easily an hour wait.

i'd leave early and stay late if you make a day trip.

Must I know everything? Go look up a map.

easytraveler Aug 12th, 2005 10:53 AM

Faina, I don't believe OC/Reho are on the West Coast. I know Baltimore isn't. :)

FainaAgain Aug 12th, 2005 11:02 AM

LOL Concerned

Easy, is this the case where East metts West?

KT Aug 12th, 2005 12:17 PM

Easytraveler, of course OC is on the west coast. Don't you watch that show on TV? And Reho is in the state next to California, Hevada. :-)

FainaAgain Aug 12th, 2005 01:03 PM

OC=Orange County, California.

Reho? Never heard.

And forgive my typo, it should've been "East meets West"

razzledazzle Aug 12th, 2005 01:54 PM

OC=Ocean City,Maryland
Reho=Rehoboth Beach, Delaware
Bay Bridge=crosses Chesapeake Bay in Maryland,
popular East Coast weekend escapes
in the Washington DC/Baltimore metro area.
Now don't get me started on the crabcake
debate!

R5, Bay Bridge connects Oakland and San Francisco, if you didn't know.

Gosh, those Californians! No pride whatsoever! Where is my Chardonnay?

razzledazzle Aug 12th, 2005 02:44 PM

I wasn't sure either until i re-read the OP. OC/Reho gave it away, but I missed it the first time. Haven't been on that bridge since springtime.

easytraveler Aug 12th, 2005 03:42 PM

KT: I know about the OC in California. Used to go down there all the time and admire the rows and rows of Os which gave us so much of our OJs! :)

Faina: "East meets West" - I hope nevah. It'll take one heck of an earthquake to do that! LOL! I like too much the lands in beween East and West to want that to happen!

Just got back and imbibing already! No chard this time, just a pre-dinner kir. Feeling French today! :)

how muich is the toll on the Bay bridge now? Have not been down that way for a few years. If no one knows I will just call AAA
We are going to OC Md. on a sunday. and leaving back to West.Pa. on friday. shoudl we be somewhat ok with traffic?

Mincepie May 3rd, 2006 12:53 PM

Yes..school is not out yet. I still would not travel at rush hour.

GeorgeW May 3rd, 2006 01:04 PM

The Chesapeake Bay Bridge between the Annapolis area and Maryland's Eastern Shore costs $ 2.50. Traffic has been very good on Friday nights for the past eighteen months after personnel changes were made after the disaterous situation of the Fall of 2004.
