Basking Ridge Pumpkin Patches?
My sister and I are headed to Basking Ridge NJ next weekend and want to visit a pumpking patch with our little ones. Any recommendations? Our kids are young, so we don't need any roller coasters. Just something not too crowded where we can get some cider and take a few photos amongst the gourds.

I don't know if there's anything in that area that won't be crowded, but I grew up with Wightman's Farms and it is still there:

I don't know about pumpkin farms, but not far from Basking Ridge is a town called Stirling. Go visit the Shrine of St. Joseph. I'm not saying it to convert anyone because I love it there and I'm not Catholic. It is absolutely breathtaking and worth the trip.

Wightman's is a good choice.
Somewhat closer, though smaller, is Crane Farm, at 270 South Maple Avenue in Basking Ridge. Also nearby is Hillview Farm at 223 Meyersville Road in Gillette. At Hillview, the kids might enjoy a ride on a tractor-drawn wagon out to the apples and pumpkins. A nice photo op with pumpkins near the entrance to the parking lot: http://www.hillviewfarmsnj.com |
There's also a couple farms in Chester, NJ (about 20 minutes away) along with a Harvest Festival this weekend. Wightmans is always a total zoo....

Yes, the traffic on US 202 at Wightman's can, indeed, be daunting.

Schaefer Farms in Readington (schaeferfarms.com) and Alstede Farms in Chester (alstedefamrs.com) are both great for kids.
