As an antidote to ubiquitous soccer,a family of four would love to attend a baseball game,<BR>New York City 11-14th August.<BR><BR> We will be staying in mid-town Manhattan and would appreciate recommendations on travelling to and from our hotel to the game.<BR><BR> And, of course, how to best obtain tickets!<BR><BR>

The only reasonable way to travel to a game when you're coming from Manhattan is to take the subway.<BR><BR>You didn't say whether you want to see the Yanks or the Mets! But actually, both are easily reachable by subway from Midtown (#7 goes to Shea, #4 and others go to Yankee Stadium).<BR><BR>You can buy tix ahead of time through the Yankees or Mets websites. I believe both websites will show you a view from the seat location before you commit to buying the tix. Of course, the good seats and tickets for the big rivalry games may already be sold out. The good news is, if you're going to see the Yanks, the upper deck seats are quite good! You still feel "close" to the game. The upper deck seats at Shea though, are awful in my opinion - very far back.<BR><BR>Another way to buy tickets is from the Yankees or Mets Clubhouse stores in Manhattan. Both are in Midtown...I don't know exact locations.

On August 11 the Yankees play the Oakland A's at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx; on August 13 & 14 the Mets host the San Diego Padres at Shea Stadium in Queens. No NY games on the 12th. Although I'm a Mets fan, the Yankees game is probably better for you - historic stadium, nice day game. And always take the subway!

Baseball is virtually unknown in Ireland: its nearest rival, cricket, is quite popular in both parts of Ireland.<BR><BR> I recall baseball and cricket being played, along side each other, in a Park off Ford Street, Brooklyn. Unfortunately last time I never made it to a baseball game in 1971-- to my eternal regret!<BR><BR>Maybe this time! <BR><BR>I thank you all for your help!<BR><BR>Most impressed!

Tickets for the Met Games on the 13 and 14 will not be a problem since neither game is likely to sell out. The sunday <BR>Yankee could be a sell out or close to one. Once you know the hotel where you will be staying and indicate which game you will be going to, specific instructions can be provided on how to get to the ball park by subway. Subway is the only way to go. I just returned from Yankee Stadium and the trip took, door to door, a little less than 25 minutes to 96th St. on the upper west side.<BR>
