Does anyone know what the scheduled completion date is for the BART Extension to San Francisco airport? The BART website indicates it will be this year, but when?

I read that press release and several others, but none of them indicated when regularly scheduled service is to begin. It sounds close (97% complete). But the new stations are not listed on the website's schedule. Anyway, thanks for your help.

They ran a test train last week. It seems to be ahead of schedule - surprise - and should be running before December. This is going to improve public transport so much in the bay area. They are also hooking Caltrain up with BART so you can take the train to the BART station, a long time we've waited for this. Now folks in San Jose and on the peninsula will have better transportation options for getting to SF, Berkeley, Oakland, etc.

Does anyone know if the Bart will go directly to the terminals at SFO or to a separate station which will require transfer to a shuttle bus?

The SFO Airport BART Station is sure to be a popular destination for both commuters and travelers using the world's ninth busiest airport. The joint BART/Airport Rail Transit (ART) Station will be located in Concourse H, adjacent to the new International Terminal. If you look at the website all questions can be answered. Navigate around. Opening is by end of Year or January 2003 at the latest.

Mark, The BART train will stop only at the international terminal. From there you need to transfer to a people mover tram to get to the other terminals.

Here's the deal with BART to SFO as it looks now: One line will run from downtown SF to the airport (the Dublin/Pleasanton line), with the following stops south of the city: Daly City, Colma, South San Francisco, San Bruno, SFO Airport. This will run every 15 mins during the day Mon-Sat and every 20 mins evenings and all day Sunday. Another line (the Pittsburg/Bay Point line) will run from downtown SF to Millbrae to connect with CalTrain and the massive parking garage there. It will make the following stops south of SF: Daly City, Colma, South San Francisco, San Bruno, Millbrae. Same frequency as the SFO line. Additionally, a dedicated train will run from Millbrae to SFO every 20 minutes. BART will only stop at the International Terminal at SFO. You can either change there to the new people mover or walk to your terminal (all terminals at SFO are connected seamlessly with no walking outside). It will be faster to walk from the International Terminal to the United terminal than to change to the people mover and take that. The fare from SFO to downtown will be approximately $5.50 I believe. The trains will NOT have luggage racks. The trip from SFO to downtown SF should be about 35 minutes. Don't expect to see the extension open before the end of January 2003. James

SFO is no longer the worlds 9th busiest airport-it seems that the number of annual passengers departing and arriving at SFO has declined considerably-due to a myriad of factors. Denver has surpassed San Francisco and Houston and Phoenix are almost equal to SFO. The dot-com implosion and the effective improvements at other local airports have dealt blows to SFOs expansion plans-which include the recently opened International Terminal( the largest in North America). Meanwhile Oakland and San Jose have both succeeded in attracting previously SFO-only travelers with nonstop flights to SoCal, The Northeast and Hawaii. Plus United, SFOs biggest carrier is teetering on the verge of bankruptcy- I guess that only time will tell how SFO fares in the long run.
