BART from Oakland Airport to SF
I understand that BART now has a connector at Oakland Airport. If I'm arriving at Terminal 2 (Southwest Airlines), what is involved in getting to BART and into San Francisco? Is it doable with a rolling suitcase? The information available on the internet is very sparse. Thanks!

I did it once. I don't remember the details that you are looking for but it is doable with a rolling suitcase. The one thing I remember is that the people at the help desk inside the airport told me you can buy your ticket on the bus (shuttle bus from airport to BART). That is not true! You must buy your ticket from a machine on the platform (platform where you wait for the shuttle bus). Good luck! I honestly found it easier to take the train to/from Chicago O'Hare/downtown Chicago and I grew up in the Bay Area!

There is no longer the bus - it is now an overhead tram that takes you directly to the Colliseum station, where you would transfer to a BART train to SF. I don't know what either costs; I believe you need separate tickets. It should take about 30 minutes once you are on BART.

Old news . . . The tram connector gailscout mentions costs $6 http://www.bart.gov/guide/airport |
It's very easy. The connector tram is a very short distance from the Southwest Terminal. A five minute walk from baggage claim to the escalator to the tram for even someone who strolls. Roller bag no problem.
We haven't used the tram yet . . . previously the shuttle bus to BART, and the time we went after it opened, we took the Bay Porter Express . . . would have done the tram/BART route had we known it had opened, but didn't know it had opened until we're sitting there waiting for the shuttle we'd hired! Anyway, bottom line, you'll have no problem. |
