Any recommendations for a

cool (non touristy) place for cocktails /drinks in Manhattan

or

roof top bar/bar with a view (not the Marriott View)

I guess a combo of the 2 is out of the question?

THANKS

I really like the FlatIron Lounge on West 19th Street, between 5th and 6th (I think.) Great atmosphere, a nice drink menu.

In terms of more of a pub environment, I like the GingerMan on East 36th at Madison Ave.

Personally, I think the best rooftop bar is the one at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It's open late on Friday night.

The PenTop Lounge at the Peninsula Hotel is also a great spot. However, at $16 a drink last year, probably more this year, it isn't a place that I'd plan on staying for more than 1 or 2.

I agree that the best rooftop bar is probably the one at the Metropolitan Museum (in season).

Another choice of outdoor bar is Bryant Park Grill. It has a nice view of Bryant Park, but can be something of a meatmarket on Thursday nights.

I like the GingerMan and it might be better now that bars are non-smoking (they used to sell cigars and it was veeeery smoky there!), but I think of it more as a "winter" place. Don't ask me to explain why.

Michael Jordan's or Cipriani's at Grand Central can be fun and both have good snacks.

what time of the year? The shelburne hotel has a rooftop bar with nice views, but it's only open memorial-labor day. Anyone can go up there just to take in the views. it's very lowkey.

Manhattan offers literally thousands of "cool" places for cocktails.

How old are you? What type of crowd are you seeking? Do you prefer beer? Wine? Mixed drinks?

Help us out.
