Bar Harbour Restaurants
Although we are old fans of Bar Harbour (and environs: Ellesworth, Bangor, Blue Hill) we never get tired of it and look forward to new restaurant "finds". Clam strips to high-end gourment or quirky, ethnic faves: any price category welcome, as we generally are in the area for a couple of weeks and like to experiment.

Since you've spent so much time there, why not post some of your favorites?
The following post has a list of places we liked last Sept: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34449704 We also have enjoyed Cafe this way, but didn't get there last time. And we're looking forward to getting to the Mexican restaurant XYZ, when we're up there this August. |
My mom lives in Bangor and we always go to the lobster pier in Bar Harbour. I never remember what it's called but you order in the lobster pond and wait for your meal and then can eat out on the pier. It is very close to the tour boat dock. The lobsters are great and they always let me bring the dog out on tot he deck

What ever you do, do not go to Anthon's Italian on Main Street! We are from Northern NJ, and used to good Italian/American cuisine. The food there was inedible! The owner/chef, was a lovely man from South Philly. we did not have the heart to tell him how bad his food was, but for you I suggest avoid this place at all costs!

Maggie's Classic
George's 124 Cottage Street The Parkside Island Chowda House And in Ellsworth, don't miss the French Silk Pie or a piece of warm Toll House Pie at the Hilltop House. |
Havana!! They have a salad there with a raspberry-jalapeno dressing that is out of this world!!
Also second George's, though we thought the service was better at Havana. |
miguel's. super mexican food!

Thank you all!! We will be testing some of your faves this summer.
In the meantime, as requested here are our picks Bar Harbour: George's (high end, pricey, but excellent, ask for a brookside table if its too cool to eat outdoors), The Quarterdeck (great for lunch, traditional Maine fish dishes, nice deck with view of harbour), Bill and Ben's (main street ice cream and confectoinary: be bold-check out the lobster ice cream, best fudgeon the east coast) Ellesworth-The Mex ("real" Mexican, the mole is superb), Jordans (for clam strips and other fish) Blue Hill (on road to Cape Rosier)-Country View Lunch (go out round the back with your clam strips, crab or lobster roll and eat in Milton's Folly for lovely views-local lobstermen/women eat here because they drop of there catch here, thats fresh) Bucksport/Ellesworth/ off Highway 1- Duffy's (real old-fashioned diner style home cooking) Have fun and thanks again!!! |
