Bar Harbor resturants
 

I'm looking for reccomendations for the best resturants in Bar Harbor. Anything from rustic to fine dining. I've read about the popular Jordan Pond and Thurstons Lobster Pound and would like to include these but need a few more suggestions. (especially for dinner)

Not sure of the name..but we had the BEST lobster experience EVER in Bar Harbor.. Right at the waterfront.. over the bridge, away from the cruise ships docking is a lobster shack..You go in... pick out the lobsters you want..whether hard or soft shell, add what we did steamers and corn. They bundle it all up in a net and toss it into the water.. When it's finished they call your number and we sat upstairs on the top of a deck overlooking the water and just "pigged out". Oh yes. our lobsters were at least two pounds each Oh yes.. the entire meal for the two of us was under $50.00... local seafood restaurants outside of Boston could not compete with those prices.. Lobsters from the cold, cold water of Bar Harbor are the sweetest..

Hard to find BAD restaurants in the area in my opinion, we tried Island Chowder House, Maggies, Georges, and The Asticou (In Southwest Harbor)....all were good.

Yes to the Jordan Pond House and Thurston's plus Bass Harbor - Capt Nemo's, Seafood Ketch...Southwest Hrbr - Westside Grille, Fiddler's Green, Little Notch, Red Sky, La Cantina, DryDock Cafe; Bar Hrbr - Havana, Bar Harbor Inn, Gaylen's, Cafe This Way, Reel Pizza if you want to see a movie...and Cleonice in Ellsworth...Town Hill Market for great sandwiches for your picnic in Acadia...

Beale's Lobster Shack in South Harbor. Pick out your lobster, say what you want with it...corn, clam chowder, bread..whatever. Sit at a newspaper-covered picnic table and enjoy the scenery until they call out your name. Enjoy.

In Bar Harbor, Poor Boy's Gourmet was excellent, and if you like Thai, the Siam Orchid was outstanding. ((b))

Just came back yesterday. Here's my pick. Bluefish Cafe on Cottage St.- get the halibut with this amazing sauce, Poor Boys Gourmet for dessert only - get the blueberry pie a-la-mode (entrees were okay), Burning Tree on Rt 3 was excellent and eclectic, Parkside on Main St. has decent lobsters for lunch ($18), the Deck House in Southwest Harbor has a great cabaret show. The wait staff performs about 13 Broadway skits that was awesome!! Food was okay though. Thurstons was excellent but NOT cheap. We paid $12.50 a pound for two 3 pound lobsters ($75)!!! Lastly, Cafe This Way on Mt. Desert St. has great breakfast and dinner at very reasonable prices.

We didn't like Gaylans (basic food, nothing special) or George's (pricey, stuffy, dull, and had small portions). Also Jordan's for breakfast wasn't so great either. The blueberry pancakes didn't have much flavor and they used fake maple syrup. Cafe This Way was 10 times better and they served it with REAL maple syrup.
