Bar Harbor, Maine advice please.

We're getting back to one of my favorite places in the world, Maine, in mid October. Since it is a bit later than previous visits, I know some of our favorite restaurants along the coast will be closed. I'd appreciate recommendations for favorite places forlobster/lobster roll in the Bar Harbor area. Also, does anyone recommend a particular ferry tour? We'll be there after the whale watching season, and I'm considering a nature trip.

One more question, does anyone have a particular drive that is especially scenic. We usually drive along the coast, which is beautiful, but very slow.

We recently returned from a week honeymoon in Bar Harbor. The best lobster we had was at Abel's Lobster Pound Restaurant. Absolutely fantastic! If you go there, get a table by the window so you can watch the sunset. Right in town, we had very good lobster at the West Street Cafe. We had great lobster rolls for lunch one day at the Thirsty Whale. I don't think there is a bad restaurant in that town Have fun! I'm jealous.

Lois, have you driven from Bar Harbor up to the gorgeous and dramatic vistas of the Schoodic Peninsula? From Ellsworth take Rt. 1 toward Machias, then turn onto Rt. 186 toward Winter Harbor, turn left at the cove in Winter Harbor, then after 1 mile turn right into the Schoodic section of Acadia National Park. Weather permitting have a picnic lunch on the expanse of granite at Schoodic Point, then continue your tour, either stopping to hike a bit, or investigating Prospect Harbor and Corea to see other little fishing villages, and the REAL Maine. Here's a link to a map of the Schoodic Peninsula: http://www.acadia-schoodic.org/Map2004.pdf
and for more information and links related to the area: http://www.acadiamagic.com/Schoodic.html

Have you considered heading on up to Prince Edward Island?

KAC, I haven't been further than Bar Harbor, and hadn't entertained the idea of heading further north, till your suggestion. We loved the time we spent in Acadia, and I was going back and forth between spending more time exploring there, or taking a ferry to one of the Canadian destinations, as starrsville suggested. Considering that we will only have two and a half days in that part of Maine, I've been trying to focus on what is the best way to make use of our time there. I checked out the sites you listed, and now have a new
'gameplan'. Thanks so much for the input!
