Bar Harbor activities
 

My spouse and I will be in Maine in June for our 25th anniversary trip. I'm wonering if four nites in Bar Harbor is too long. We aren't big on hiking and such, but we love antiquing. I'd also like to do a whale watch cruise. Is June the wrong time for that? Any insight into these things would be appreciated.

Our family has been to BH twice, once in June, and once in August. We went on a whale and puffin cruise in August and saw some Wright whales, many dolphins, and a mom humpback with her calf, who came up right next to our boat! We didn't get to go the island where the puffins are due to heavy fog. I know that even in June, the boats go out, and whales are spotted.<BR>It's too bad that you don't like hiking, because there is a great little spot called Indian Point- Blagden Preserve where we saw seals basking just off the rocky point when we went in June. <BR>A wonderful restuarant to visit is the Jordan Pond House within Acadia National Park. We all still remember the fantastic popovers they serve.<BR>I cannot tell you if there is good antiquing in the area. We have many old pieces in our home which we cherish, but we've never gone away to find our treasures. Most of ours have been previous possessions of people we've known.<BR>All said, you may want to consider a day less in BH, perhaps also hiiting another area instead. <BR>Hope that helps!

I think Bar Harbor might not be your kind of place if you aren't planning on hiking and such. I don't think it's much of a shopping and antiquing spot.

BH is nice and quiet but you do need to<BR>walk alot, parking is bad. The lobster eating is out of this world and the fish chowder. Why not take The Cat to Nova Scotia for a day or two. It would be a great thing to do. <BR>Rose doesn't know much about antiques except for house sales!!!

Just in case Wilburs NS idea sounds good:<BR>The best part of NS is at the far end on Cape Breton Island. Too far for a short trip. I suspect you would like the lower coast of Maine, places like Portland, Camden, etc. Try posting a question mentioning that you like antiquing.

Four days is definitely too long for you if you don't like hiking. Assuming you don't like biking either, as there are fabulous carriage trails throughout Acadia for that. The whale watch cruise would be a few hours. If you want to try sea kayaking, BH is a great spot for it. You can do a short outing if you don't want to commit to a whole or half day. You could also take a horse and buggy ride on the carriage trails. Other than that, there's not much to do. Everything is focused on the outdoors, so if that's not your thing, I'd say two nights would be plenty for you.

You might try two nights in Bar Harbor, then head down the coast to the Camden area for a couple of nights.
