Banyan Resort-Key West -question re. kids
 

We're considering this resort in Key West and have an 11 yr. old niece who would be with us. On their website they say there are "rules" for kids under 12. Our niece is very well travelled and mature for her age. Is this place not kid-friendly? What should we expect if we take her here? Thanks.

What I have gathered, visiting Key West numerous times, is if the place has rules for kids they stick by them and are not kid friendly. Ambrosia House is a b&b that is kid friendly and I have seen nice reviews on this board for it.

Thanks..it's just that Banyan is one of the places on our timeshare list. What kind of "rules" do these places have for kids?? No running, noise etc? Can't think of what else they could be worried about. I'd think a 16 yr. old might be more rambunctious than say a 6 yr. old.

For one thing, your neice may be very bored with no one her age around to play with.

I'm sure your neice is very well behaved and well traveled but if they bend the rules for you, they would have to do it for everyone.

Why not just ask what the rules are? They may be something simple, like children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult at the pool.

From another point of view, if I paid and was told children under 12 were not allowed, I would expect for those rules to be upheld. I would be very upset if I found that they "bent" the rules for another guest while I was vacationing.

Their website merely says that special rules apply to children under 12. Since lots of B&Bs in Key West have rules that exclude children, I'm sure the Banyan Resort would've made that clear had it been their intention. Instead it says, "Bring friends and family." I can't imagine a timeshare not being family-friendly.

WE're affiliated with II. We stayed at the Hyatt Beach House over Easter and both the kids and I loved it. I checked out the Banyan and was NOT impressed, neither was my 14 year old daughter. Their are better places to stay in Key West (especially with an 11 year old, my kids are EXTREMELY well traveled, and I wouldn't consider it), depending on your resort affiliation. Just my opinion.
