Banyan Harbor, Kauai

Has anyone stayed at the Banyan Harbor in Lihue, Kauai? What's good, what's bad?

Have not stayed at the Banyon but I have seen it. It is in near the Marriott, not right on the water. Nothing very fancy. If you are getting a GREAt rate then it would be worth considering. Otherwise I think you could do better elsewhere.
Good Luck!

I have stayed at Banyan Harbor, and Tammy is right, you can do better. Our two-bedroom unit was quite plain and rather narrow and cramped. It's across a busy road from the working port in Lihue and can be noisy.

Good points? It's clean, it's centrally located, and the pool is nice - on top of a hill, with a view.

I stayed for a week in March '03 at the Banyan Harbor and would echo what others have said. Ask yourself whether amenities and lavish decor are more important or are you looking for a great location. If the former, you'd do better to go elsewhere. If latter, the location is great. Easy to walk to shops, beach, etc. And central location for driving everywhere. Near the airport. Is that a plus or minus to you?

Agree with all of the above posters, Banyan Harbor is not what I would consider a vacation destination. It is located across from the comemrcial harbor and is architectually very bland (that 70's thing, LOL.) The units I gave been in are dark and grim. There are lots of Kauai working folk who live at Banyan Harbor fulltime, it is not a swinging vacation resort.
