Bamboo Forrest, (7) Pools, which one should we hike?
 

We are in good shape and want to find a beautiful spot to hike. We have (3) days on Maui.
Which hike should we talk, bamboo forrest or (7) pools?
How do you get to the bamboo forrest?

Neither of these is a difficult hike. 7 Pools is only a short walk from a parking area as I recall (it's been a few years). Hike to through the bamboo forest wasn't difficult, just make sure to leave enough time to hike in and back. Park maps, etc. should give you detailed info about the length of the hike. Wear decent shoes as it was muddy and a little slippery in parts. Should easily be able to do these in the same day. Trish

The area actually has more than the 7 pools, as you'll come across on the longer hike (the one that takes you through the bamboo forest.) In the summer the pools and streams were pretty calm, so we stopped for dips a few times before we reached Waimoku Falls, which is past the bamboo forest.

Definitely do the Pipiwai Trail to Waimoku Falls! You don't really need a guide book to find it either. It takes about one hour of uphill hiking to get to the waterfall. We take a backpack of water, treats and Deep Woods Off with us and it works out perfectly.

like all said, definitely enough time for both. the hike to Waimoku Falls was really great.. once you get into the bamboo forest, it will darken a bit and you'll start hearing the sound of them clinking together. i was like a giddy little child, but i felt like a tiny bug in the grass. LOVED IT. also smell of passion fruit the entire way up (probably b/c it was falling from trees), and once at falls, it's refreshing and we got great pics. i loved it.
p.s. if you're really gutsy, we also did the drive around the northeast part of maui. it's one-lane and pretty dangerous at times, but the views... my god, it was the best birthday ever :). Have FUN!

Waimoku Falls was a highlight of our trip. Don't skip it. When we hiked it, it was raining. Once we got deep into the bamboo forest we couldn't even feel or hear the rain. So neat. If you plan to get as close as you can to the falls, be prepared to get your feet wet. :)

The bamboo forest experience is worth the cost of the trip to Maui in my book!!!

Thank you all for your recommendation to hike the bamboo forrest. WE DID IT! Wow! What a gorgeous hike!
Although it is a gradual up hill grade, it is an easy hour hike through different scenery.
You walk through an area that reminds you of the wizard of oz, then through a grassy meadow, on a pathway through "thick" bamboo shutes. This is the point where the hike darkens. At the end it opens up to a gorgeous waterfall!
This is a hike that will stay with you a lifetime.
