Baltimore Weekend
We're heading up to Baltimore for a weekend get away (Thursday to Saturday) and am looking for recommendations for lunch or dinner places, that are casual, moderately priced and popular with the locals. Certainly, we'd like to try some Maryland crab cakes. We plan to visit the aquarium, Inner Harbor and Fort McHenry and then stop at whatever catches our attention. Any other suggetstions are appreciated. Thank you in advance.

It has been a while since I have been to Baltimore so I don't have many restaurant recommendations. I had crab cakes at Bertha's in Fells Point. They were good but I am sure that there were better.
I really enjoyed the American Visionary Museum at the foot of Federal Hill. It is just a block or 2 from the Inner Harbor. |
Just came back from a similar trip. Try Cafe Gia in Little Italy...moderately priced for the area and delicious! Crab cakes were outrageously good at Thames Street Oyster House in Fells Point (and so were the oysters. And everything else as far as we could tell.) Expect to wait--but you can give your name and they'll have you call in if you decide to do a little more wandering first. Miss Shelly's in Inner Harbor, across from the Aquarium, is crazily busy--but they offer drinks and juice while you are waiting....but delicious and serves breakfast all day(and what a breakfast!!! try their grits!!-- wonderful large salads and sandwiches and entrees too. (closes at about 3:30 or 4, so not a dinner place.)
If you like historical ships, choose a couple of the fascinating vessels at the Inner harbor. The crew on the Constellation is really "into" the vessel and its history which made it fascinating for us. And buy your tickets for the Aquarium in advance on line. A word to the wise. |
Did you take your trip last weekend, or just getting ideas for some upcoming weekend?

The first weekend Orioles games are vs. the Yankees 4/7-8-9.
