Baltimore/Washington DC in late December?
We are planning a trip to PHL in October to look at colleges with high school daughter and hoping to get to Baltimore and Washington DC then. Now, she has found several schools in PHL and we may have to go between Xmas & NY. We realize all the schools will be on break, but what is the weather like? Daughter made it through school without ever visiting DC and we want her to see that. It would be a 7 hour drive for us. Think it will be too cold for sightseeing??

It can be quite cold here then, but you'll find that there are so few groups that you can do almost whatever you want without having to worry about lines. Baltimore's Inner Harbor can be bitter with the wind blowing off the water. AOn the other hand, we chose a new years wedding a year and a half ago and ended up with a 50 degree day.

Thanks sbc98grad, how about mid-March? Daughter will be applying to Univ of Maryland - College Park and Goucher sight unseen (her choice). She only wants to visit schools after she gets accepted, maybe by Spring Break. Your thoughts for mid March?

Temps in the DC area generally run in the 40s during the day and the 30s overnight. It can be warmer and it can definitely be colder.
I agree that it's not likely to be too cold for sightseeing in DC and, as noted, the crowds will be small or none. That won't be true in March when you will be contending with other spring breakers and school groups.

It will likely be warmer by then, but not balmy by any means! Sometimes those late winter storms pack a punch in March. You will see bigger crowds in March because school groups will begin to pour in. Be sure to check spring break schedules of those schools since they tend to be out about that time, too.
