Baltimore to Toronto
Planning to drive from Baltimore to Toronto Canada. Can anyone tell me where to stay half way between the two places.
|
If you're taking the shortest route, i.e. US15, then your apparent choices are Williamsport, PA, which is a bit under halfway, or Corning, NY, which is just over halfway. Not much in between.

We have done this same trip, and I would definitely choose Corning, with a stop at Corning Glass Factory. Kids still talk about that, they complained the entire time, but it has become a family story that they remember! We stayed in Niagra, but drove to Toronto for a day trip.

i used yahoo maps and they didn't take us via 15. They use I-70,I76, I79, I90. Is Corning still on the path? Thanks for the suggestion, I looked it up and noticed they even have a winery!! didn't expect that. Still trying to plan the trip. Have business in Baltimore and always try to see new things out that way.

Taking US15 will save you almost a hundred miles from the I-79 recommendation, and a few dollars in toll. The route is mostly freeway, except for between Harrisburg and Milton. Still, it will be faster than taking I-79.
Corning is not on the path if you take I-79. |
would love to save 100 miles. Any advice on getting a good on line map taking us via the 15?

You can still use mapquest. Just do it with two searches. One from Baltimore to Williamsport, PA, the other Williamsport to Toronto.
The latter part is pretty straight forward. But between Harrisburg and Williamsport, there are some choices. One is stay all the way on US15. Or you can get on I-80E and then take I-180N. The freeway route is longer, and time is about the same if I remember correctly. Or at the US11/15 split near Northumberland, you can take US11 instead, cross the West Branch Susequehanna at Northumberland, then take PA147. PA147 turns into freeway before I-80, and becomes I-180. Probably the fastest route. If you want to try that last option I mention, just split your Mapquest search to two. One from Baltimore to Northumberland, PA; the other from there to Toronto. |
The Mapquest route via 79 is just another bad result from that service. US 15 is a great road, quicker and much more scenic.
BTW, if you're traveling with kids or baseball fans, the stadium for the Little League World Series is a quick and easy stop in Williamsport. It's a cute little park. |
Thanks so much for the driving instructions. We are looking forward to the trip and really appreciate your time.

Hi!
I will be driving from Toronto to Fairfax Viriginia..Mapquest is showing me 190-90-79 etc,but I have been advised to take Route 219 from Buffalo all the way to I-70. I want to make it quick Any suggestions?? plus I've read that Route 219 is kinda dangerous!! any advises?? thanks |
219 is very curvy, and is 2-lane most of the way. Definitely not fast, like US15 is. Go to mapquest or other mapping site and search for Ridgway, PA, and you can see what the road looks like on a map.
I'd take I-90/79/76/70 instead. |
