Baltimore Question: Input Welcome- Traveling for Baseball in April
Anything at all you need to relate, I'm listening.
Camden Yards- LOTS of level choices in seating? Tickets hard to get for weekdays in April? Can you buy tickets at the gate? What needs to be known about airport? Logistics with regard to ballfield or choice of hotel? Not to miss? |
Having been to Camden in April, be aware it could be very cold and winterlike or it could be very warm. I tend to avoid any April games due to this. Most likely will be cold. The first time I was at Camden I had obstructed view seats so be cautious about seats. they were behind home plate under the Pres Box. Best seats are along the baselines.
If you have time and are an avid baseball fan, Philly isn't too far so going to a game in Philly is also an option. DC for that matter isn't too bad either. Been to 3 games in baltimore but usally fly down in the morning, go to game, fly back late at night so haven't seen much else |
We stayed at a wonderful B&B that was within walking distance of Camden Yards called Scarborough Fair Bed and Breakfast. There was free off-site reserved parking available, the innkeepers were very informative, and the breakfasts were tasty and delicious. Here's the link for their website:

Any "Inner Harbor" hotel is within walking distance of ballpark. We have stayed at most of them - shop price which goes up on game days, especially if choice opponent like Yankees or Red Sox.
We have bought last minute tickets for Orioles versus above - without problem. Actually bought on-line 24-48 hrs in advance. I think they sold out for September series against Red Sox, though. |
Thanks, all three of you.
The B&B sounds it might be something we would like. We mostly do hotels but have enjoyed several B&B's immensely. April in Baltimore will be milder than April in Chicago. LOL! It's to see the White Sox and also maybe a jog to D.C.too. We shall see. Airfares are nifty! |
I don't agree that it will be milder. Was there in April and it was 25° and windy. Agreed that there is a better chance of good weather but it is far from definite
|
Airport is reasonable, and be aware you can get from there to downtown via rail (although you need a shuttle bus or short-haul taxi to get out to the train stations), both commuter and Amtrak.
|
I expect you could wait til the day of the game and still get good seats, epecially on a weekday in April. If the weather is bad, suggest you get the club level seats, so you can go inside and warm up. We had these seats in August and going inside was a great way to beat the heat.
For a nearby hotel that's not as expensive as those right on the harbor, we stay at the Brookshire suites. |
It's similar, we can have beauty buds and 50 degrees or we can have freezing too or worse a snowstorm the very next day.
It's 16th or 17th so maybe we will be lucky. Weather doesn't bother us. Thank you all, and it is good to know that we can get a train too if that becomes more logical to what we are doing before or afterwards. Are the car rental places in the airport there? We could take some time and drive the area, see some things we missed in D.C. and some other places too if I make the stay longer. |
Car rental is off-site from BWI (there is a shuttle from the airport).
I don't recommend driving to DC to see the sights because parking is difficult plus traffic. If you want to travel to DC from Baltimore you could take the train (MARC commuter weekdays or Amtrak), or you could drive to one of the outlying Metro stations and take the Metro into DC. Parking can also be a problem at Metro stations though. |
Thanks, cerise.
We used the Metro extensively last Feb. and I don't think we are going to rent a car, even though there are a few places we want to see way off the beaten track. It may be that they are best left for a time when we are a long drive trip down the East coast and don't really stay or visit D.C. at all. Hopefully that will occur, post retirement. |
