Baltimore Gem - American Visionary Arts Museum

Jump to last reply

We just got back from a trip to Balto that was mostly focused on visiting friends and family. But we did do a little traveling, and discovered the American Visionary Arts Museum. Definitely a must-see, especially with kids! The art is so creative and unusual! To read about it, it sounds a little kitschy (their store definitely was!), but we thought the art was great and thought-provoking. It's located by the inner harbor, though not right by the aquarium/science museum/etc. -- can't say exactly, as I was being driven around.

We were also at the Balto Museum of Art earlier in the day, and enjoyed seeing some of the exhibits there. We were mostly at the latter stuff, including the wonderful Matisse exhibit and the modern sculpture.

My 12 year old daughter who loves doing art isn't always a fan of viewing art (to put it mildly), but even she had a great time that day.
