Baltimore - cabs from train to Inner Harbor hotel
 

Taking the train from NYC to Baltimore next week. We're staying at the Marriott Baltimore Waterfront ($74 on Priceline, wahoo!) The hotel website shows it's 1 mile from Penn Station to the hotel. Can anyone tell me if cabs are readily available at the station? What's an average fare for this trip?

This may seem like a crazy stupid question, but on our last trip we took a cab out to Fell's Point and didn't realize it was unmetered until the driver had started. This was a first & resulted in an uncomfortable situation which we'd like to avoid. Thanks!

You should have no trouble getting a taxi at Penn Station. I don't know the average fare, but it's not very far so it should be under $10 if I had to guess.

Did you check to see if the Marriott has a shuttle? Try calling them and to see if they have a shuttle to the airport. Maybe they'd be willing to swing around and pick you up especially as it's not that far to the hotel.

The hotel and train station are on opposite directions of the inner harbor. And inner harbor hotels don't usually have airport shuttles, since BWI is served by both MARC and Baltimore light rail.

It's been a few years since I've taken a cab in Baltimore, but the yellow Checker Cabs were always metered I seem to recollect. I arrived in Baltimore Penn Station MANY times; there were almost always cabs there.

Thank you all for your responses. We are just home from Baltimore. I asked where to pick up a cab at the info booth at the Amtrak terminal & cabs were lined up right outside the door. But turns out there's a free bus service with a stop at Penn Station that took us right to our hotel. We used it every day, it was easy to navigate and went most places we wanted to visit. Also took cabs 2Xs to return to our hotel from Orioles games. They were fine, guess that unmetered cab was a fluke.

The answer seems to be "it depends which Hopkins campus". The "Charm City Circulator" bus apparently goes to Johns Hopkins Medical but not the main undergraduate (Homewood) campus. However, Johns Hopkins does provide a free bus for employees/students from the Homewood campus to Penn Station to the Peabody Institute to Johns Hopkins Medical. The #3 and #11 city buses also go from the Homewood campus to the Inner Harbor.

travfirst, our DD went to JHU. They used to organize a shuttle service to the airport, for holiday departures. It was just $10 three years ago, with limited schedules.

Congrats on your son getting into JHU! Isn't it the prettiest campus anywhere? Tough school, though. No easy A's there!

Did you have a chance to visit Homewood Museum while she was in college? We loved it. The museum walk/campus history tour administration planed for parents was also very interesting.
I am sure school will be tough. DS got to the BME that required separate admission; no freebies there.
