Bakersfield lodging - which Hampton Inn?

Hello,
Any advice on which Hampton Inn (or a better place) to stay in Bakersfield?
We just need 1 night and a place nearby for dinner.
I found 3 Hampton Inn's:

8818 Spectrum Park Wy, 93308

1017 Oak St, 93304

7941 East Brundage Ln, 93307

All advice welcomed,
Thanks in advance

We stayed at the Oak St. location. The hotel is nice, rooms are big, and the location...well...is in Bakersfield. The Oak St. location is near the Crystal Palace, and can be a great place to go for dinner if there's a show (whether you're a country music fan or not). http://www.buckowens.com/concerts.html

Because of the freeway, you still can't walk there even though it's so close. <sigh>

Curious - Is this for your trip from San Jose to the Grand Canyon?

If so, San Jose to Bakersfield is only about 4 hour's drive. Unless you are leaving at night, Bakersfield might be too soon to stop.

Hi Janisj,
Yes, it's for our trip to GC but we really don't like driving long hours and our first stop was supposed to be Lake Havasu City. However, DH said lets leave 1 day earlier and stay over somewhere so Bakersfield is sorta in between San Jose & there. We still want to go to Lake Havasu City so I won't have to change reservations...just add one.

Hi TAW,
From Tehachapi, which is 45 minutes past Bakersfield on the 58 fwy, it is 8 hrs to the GC. It is 4 1/2 hrs from San Jose to Tehachapi. If you really want to split the driving into two days you can either stay in Tehachapi or drive for 1 1/2 hrs more and stay in Barstow.

If you decide to stay in Tehachapi, our hotels are right off the freeway: Holiday Inn Express, Best Western, La Quinta. There is a Denney's and there is also a nice restaurant that is not too expensive, City Slickers, that has a bit of everything: steaks, burgers, chicken, fish. It is also right next to the fwy. It is cooler up here than it would be in either Barstow or Bakersfield.

If you decide to stay in Tehachapi and have a little bit of time in the afternoon before you arrive, you can exit the freeway at Keeene which is 10 miles before Tehachapi. Go under the fwy and up the road a mile or two to the small parking area on the left side of the road. From there you can watch the trains make the famous "Tehachapi Loop". This is a train track that loops over itself in order to make the climb from Bakersfield to Tehachapi. It's our one claim to fame!

Have fun,
Michele

If you want a Hilton property, I recom, mend the Hilton Garden Inn or the Doubletree....both are just off Rosedale Highway (Route 58 West). I think HGI is alittle more removed from the freeway and main road. Almost any chain restaurant you can want it a couple of miles west on Rosedale (Dave's BBQ, Chili's, Roadhouse Grill, Red Lobster, Macroni Grill, etc.) a reasonable good Mexican place is the Cactus Valley, is only about 1/4 mile to the west.
But, as Michele says, Techachapiis cooler.

If you really think you need to stop that soon, then I agree - stay in Tehachapi. I'd personally want to get farther, but Tehachapi is better than Bakersfield. It could be VERY hot in Bakersfield or Barstow.

Thanks everyone for your help. If we go a day early then we'll stay in Tehachapi. Otherwise we'll make the 8+ hr drive to Lake Havasu City...all depends on how DH feels at the moment...LOL
