bakeries in Boston
Hi all, I am travelling to Boston in a few weeks and would like to order my husband a birthday cake from a local bakery. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance!

Here is one that I have used and liked:

http://www.rosiesbakery.com/

Try going to..http://www.chowhound.com/newengland/...on/boston.html they can give you exact location of bakery close to where you are going to be staying ... hope it's the North End..

Here are a couple of ideas:

Montilio's Bakery
70 Arlington Street, Boston, MA 02116
(617) 426-2253
*the best cake in Boston, but expensive.

Mike's Pastry Inc
300 Hanover Street, Boston, MA 02113
(617) 742-3050
*famous for cannolis and Italian pastries, and their cake is quite good.

Sweet 'n Nasty
90 Massachusetts Avenue # A, Boston, MA 02115
(617) 266-7171
*definitely an ADULT cake-my husband's work threw a party for a departing manager with a "boob" cake. But depending on you or your husbands sense of humor, you may or may not get a chuckle out of it. They have a website.

Rosie's is also wonderful.
I strongly second the recommendation for Rosie's: incredibly good, with an excellent selection of cake types, and far superior to the plain and predictable cakes from the old traditional bakeries (e.g., Montilio's). My favorite at Rosie's is the mocha.
|
Definitely Rosie's.

Well - different strokes for different folk!---We hate Rosie's cakes! They are super rich - almost to the point of being sickening - they are very expensive and not always fresh. We would suggest Mike's Pastry in the North End - can't go wrong with that for sure! If you like Italian rum cake - it's the best. Montilio's in the suburbs is not great - but have not ordered from the one on Arlington Street.

It has to be Rosie's. The buttercream frosting is amazing! It is very very rich.
|
My vote would be for Mike's. That place is incredible. People actually smile at you when they see you hae a Mike's pastry box or bag. Make sure to reserve a "lobster claw" as well. They go fast.
|
We also like Mikes. Rosies makes a decent cake, but very rich. Although, I prefer the cakes at Modern Pastry. (across from Mike's) Love the Strawberry Shortcake.

The one thing that scares me about Mikes..is the cat that struts around inside!
