Back from 4 days in NYC

Just wanted to say thank you for all your help in planning our 4 days in Boston and 4 days in NYC. I will attempt a brief Trip report and am happy to answer any questions I can.

Tuesday-Left Boston, USAirways to LGA. No problems. Taxi to Affinia Gardens. YK, I can not thank you enough for this recommendation. It was perfect for our family of 4. Huge by city standards and the staff could not have been kinder. Had a kitchenette and nice hanging around area for TV and relaxing. We walked around "our" neighborhood a bit, down to Central Park had a quick, casual dinner at Jackson's Hole. It was near our hotel. Burgers are GIGANTIC. Good, again casual. We did not do the city justice food wise. We made the decison to bring only casual clothes so there were numerous resturants we would have enjoyed that I forbade us to enter because of our dress!

Wednesday-Up and off to the subway towards Battery Park. Ferried out to Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. My husband actucally was lucky enough to get a manifest and picture of the ship his Great Grandparents arrived from Italy on in 1906. This was a highlight for sure. Can't wait to share with my Mom-in-law. After, we walked to Trinity Church/St. Paul's Chapel. Was not prepared for the emotion of this display. We were there in 2004, but now they have a really nice memorial to the volunteers and first responders of 9/11. Very touching. Left to go to South Seaport for TKTS booth. Saw Phantom of the Opera. I know not very original, but our daughter has always wanted to see it and where better than Broadway. Kids loved Timesquare at night (so did their mom and dad!)

Thursday-Slept late! Took Subway to Empire State Building. Did the New York "ride" Kevin Bacon takes you on a "helicopter" ride of the city before you go up in the monument. Kids enjoyed it and the ESB. Lunched at Heartland Brewery. Good beers, nice break. Off to Natural Museum of History. Warning, if you haven't been go early in the day. We stayed until close. Could have stayed longer but were worn out at this point! Off to 30 Rock. Went up to Top of the Rock. Didn't expect much and we were pleasantly surprised. Great views. Back to hotel for dine in delivery from Amici da Vino. Fair at best. (BUT we ate in our room so who can complain!)

Friday-Subway to ChinaTown and Littly Italy. Yep LI is a let down. Had a mediocre lucnh stop at some Italian place. It served the purpose of bathrooms and drinks so we were good! Kids enjoyed Chinatown. Hopped the subway back uptown to the Met Mus of Art. Loved it. Again, ran out of steam before we saw everything. Really spectacular. Back to hotel for a quick bite, and to veg out before packing up.

Saturday-Taxi back to LGA. Arrived home no problems or delays.

Enjoyed our time. Felt like we did all we could in four days but missed so much. We'll just have to go again! Again, thanks for your help and happy to help anyone if I can.

Thanks for the report! Sounds like you had a great time. That's really cool about getting the manifest and picture - good for you!

Did you have a long wait at ESB or did pay the extra for the front of the line pass?

HI, I am heading to NY in 6 weeks so it would be great if I can pick your brains :-) I'll get back to you when I have some specific questions. Really awesome about the manifest.

You really packed a lot in during your 4 days - sounds like a great time!

Sounds like a memorable trip. I think your food came from Accademia di Vino? http://www.menupages.com/restaurants/accademia-di-vino/

Sounds like a really great trip. Glad you enjoyed your visit.

McLaurie-yes, that is the place. Zemom-we cruised right through. I always buy Citypasses (citypass.com) if I know we're going someplace with several sites we want to see. It saves time and money. The NY Skiride was $20 extra but also lets you bypass some lines as well. Lakeside-I'll try to answer anything I can to help.

Usually we park ourselves in the sand somewhere for a week, so this was a different trip for us. Glad we did it though as we realize family vacations will soon be a thing of the past for us!

jan89, I'm glad the Affinia Gardens worked out well for you. Which type of room(s) did you end up getting?

january89 Jul 7th, 2010 04:26 AM

YK We had a 1 bedroom, 2 beds and sofa. Nice, large TV area and the kitchenette was actually larger than Boston. The whole room was larger than expected.
