Back Bay Parking

Hi Everyone,

We are staying in the Back Bay area this weekend, and would like to avoid high cost of parking. Can anyone recommend a parking venue that is more reasonable and accessible by subway to Commonwealth Ave.? Greatly appreciated

Least expensive place I know is Boston Common underground garage - still not cheap, but close to everything.

If you're checking into a hotel, call and ask about self-parking. Often you can self-park for significantly less than the overnight valet charge.

Also, parking is much less on weekends in the financial district - usually less for the entire weekend than one night at the hotel (because the financial district is deserted weekends). After you've dropped the other person and the bags at the hotel entrance, drive to Post Office Square or thereabouts and check the signs. (We use the underground garage across the street from the Langham Hotel.) Then, you can walk, taxi, or take the T back to your hotel. Just have a good map along, or ask at the hotel for directions to Post Office Square. There's also an inexpensive garage at Winthrop Square, but this is a bit harder to find/get to because of the one-way streets.

Where will you be driving in from? If you're coming in from the West, you can always park at Riverside Station (overnight parking possible) and take the D line in, though the T ride will be about 20-25 minutes.

Hi,

Thanks for the responses. We'll be driving from New York, and staying at 199 Commonwealth (corner Exeter). Won't need car for two days, so looking to avoid Prudential Center rates, etc. Thanks again for help.

To get to Post Office Square, go northeast on Commonwealth Ave to the end and turn right on Arlington, drive three blocks and go left on Boylston, drive past Charles, Tremont, Washington, and right after Harrison, take a left on Chauncey, go past Lafayette, Bedford, Summer, and Franklin (name of street changes to Arch) and turn right on Milk, go past Devonshire, and Federal - and you're at Post Office Square. There are garages in sight as you drive around the block. Following the same directions, if you take a right on Devonshire, it's one block back to Franklin and just beyond that is Winthrop Square with a garage just ahead of the square on the left.

PS That's about 1.6 miles.
