An easy solution would be to take the tour (lots of fun) and then go to a bar afterwards - or stay at the last bar on the tour at the end.

Are you coming in from out of town? What dates? What budget for hotels?

Go to the Hurricane Club on Park Avenue & 26th. Not my thing bit the cadre of 20-somethings seem to like it.

In terms of hotel, depends on what you want to spend. If cost matters less than location, I suggest the Gansevoort in Meatpacking District. Lots of places to go out for dinner or post-dinner partying.

On hotels, a lot will not only depend on your budget but how many women you want to put in each room. Most of the trendier hotels are set up for couples, so many only have rooms with 1 bed for 2 people. The Gansevoort is one exception with some rooms with 2 doubles and they have a trendy popular rooftop swimming pool. Tablethotels.com is a website that specializes in the boutique hotels and claims to get you upgrades and other perks. Oyster.com has various hotel lists by city (best party hotels, best boutiques etc.)

Buddakan is where they had the rehearsal dinner in the first SATC movie and might be a fun place for dinner. It's good for groups anyway. (in the meatpacking district).

Check out this link for an interactive map with locations used in the show/movies -

But seriously consider taking a tour. You'll have a blast. Ride around in an air-conditioned bus with other fans, getting out at several locations, enjoying cupcakes and cosmos.
