B&Bs on Hawaii Big Island

I will be traveling to the Hawaii in July. We have 5 nights in Maui, 3 nights on the big island, then on to Oahu for business. We have accomodations for Maui and most of our time on Oahu. What B&Bs do you recommend on the Big Island? We fly in and out of Kona and want to spend at least 1 night at/near Volcano. We are open to all other areas of the Big Island. Thanks in advance!

Not too far from the volcano near Puna is a small B&B called Art&Orchids. Delicious breakfast, inexpensive and nice rooms. Check out the reviews on Tripadvisor...we loved it!

I'm going to the Bi in September and staying at the Hale Ohia Cottages right outside of the Volcano Park (1 mile)...the reviews look good...

We loved the Country Goose in Volcano village. Joan was a very good hostess, and the breakfast was great! In addition to the regular B&B rooms, she also rents several small cottages. Prices were very reasonable, and she is one of the few places where you can stay only 1 night.

We will be staying at Hale Kai in Hilo at the end of this month--Got great reviews on TripAdvisor. The owners seem really nice over the phone. I'll post a trip report when we get back!

Request reply from those of you who have stayed at B&Bs near volcano park...if we don't make reservations in advance, do you think we will be able to find anything if we wait till we get there? Would sure like to know.
Thanks.

Just back this week from a a week on the Big Island. We drove all over the island and stayed in various types of places. In Volcano we stayed in a house that we rented through Hawaii Volcano Vacations (hawaiivolcanovacations.com). We were there two nights, but even one night would have been nice. It was half way through our trip and wonderful to have plenty of room, laundry, a kitchen, hot tub and a gorgeous setting. The house we were in was Baan Sabai Dee ($195/night) but there are others. Aurelia was very helpful and nice. In an area very close to Volcano Park.

Palms Cliff Inn is gorgeous, but north of Hilo and out of town.

I would not recopmmend going to Volcano and looking for a B&B without reservations. Many of them are small cottages and the innkeeper will leave the keys for you to pick up, so if you have no reservations, you may not even be able to track down the innkeeper! Save yourself the time and make reservations in advance!

If I'm going to travel all the way to Hawaii, I want to have my reservations locked up, and not spend any precious time looking for a place to sleep. I'd recommend the Kilauea Lodge. Has a wonderful restaurant ... you can't beat the place. ( kilauea.com )

sorry ... that should have been kilauealodge.com ...

We liked Hale Ohia at Volcano also. Stayed in the water tower. Fun experience!

Summer is one of the popular times in HI. I'd advise reservations in advance. The Volcano Village suggestions sound good for a 3 day stay. :-)
