B&B's in Cambridge

Hello,

Me and my boyfriend are attending a wedding at the Harvard Memorial Church in Cambridge. It'll be our first time to the Boston/Cambridge area and plan to spend 4 nights there before heading off to NYC. We'll be using public transit. As we're Canadian and don't have the luxury of a great Canada-USA exchange rate at the moment, our budget is closer to $100-$120 a night (max).

Right now we're booked at Carolyn's B&B in western Cambridge. Does anyone have any comments on this B&B, or any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Robyn, Cambridge is great! I spend a lot of time in Rockport, a 40 minute train trip from Boston, Rocky coast, artist community, you may love it if you have the time. As for your B&B I don't know it but if youu go to the travel board as bedandbreakfast.com I bet you'll find a posting!

Although I do not know of B&Bs in Boston/Cambridge, be sure to post here with name, and especially address. You will get comments that will be useful - there are a few I have heard of that double as rooming houses and I imagine you want to avoid these.

Thanks Carole & Gail,

We'll be staying at Carolyn's B&B which is at 102 Holworthy Street, just south of Fresh Pond, and north of the Mt Auburn Cemetery. I've checked on a map and I know where it is in proximity to Harvard & Boston. I'm just curious about the kind of neighbourhood it is.

Thanks again!

btw - here's the website:

http://www.bbonline.com/ma/carolyns

Robyn,
I just looked at the B&B's website, and I'd have nothing to worry about at all in that neighborhood. If anything, the neighborhood is getting better and better, and even small uninteresting houses are being rehabbed and selling for huge bucks. Enjoy your visit and enjoy the neighborhood. It looks like you've found a gem.

Hi C---, we meet again. Or the coincidence of 2 canadians looking at the same place is beyon belief...

The neighborhood is good, but you will be a fair walk from public transit. You might see if the John Jeffries house (hotel) in Beacon Hill (Boston) still has any availability. It would be a much better location for you, and still very easy to get to the Church on the train (less time than from west cambridge, appx 10-15 mins).

The Time OUt guide to Boston is excellent, as is the Moon publishing Massachusetts Handbook. If you want more advice, PM me on the tree.
