B&B recommendation in Carmel
 

We'd like to spend a weekend in Carmel area for a winter getaway. Looking for a rustic and cozy B&B maybe with a fireplace. Preferably more rural or away from the city streets. Obviously, this time of year, beautiful patios and gardens not high on the priority list. Perhaps less than $300, any places exist?

We're not "B&B" people, but others on here (whose opinions I value) have recommended the Green Gables Inn in Pacific Grove, which is Carmel adjacent. Pacific Grove is on Monterey Bay, and a very quiet small town.

Yes, but the Green Gables is on a busy stretch of road, not in the least rural or away from city streets. We're not B&B people, either, but we used to live in Monterey.

Take a look at the Lincoln Green Inn or the Sand Piper Inn. I am not a B & B person either, but both of these are on Carmel Point, near where we rent a house when we stay in Carmel. Not exactly rural, but away from "downtown" Carmel and within walking distance to Carmel Beach and Carmel River Beach.

HI All, Thanks for the tips. Funny that no one is a "B&B person". That generally includes me too. Green Gables does look good, Lincoln Green appears to be substantially past our budget, but Carmel Point also looks good. I thought I had found an old restored ranch B&B a couple years ago on a google search with the "rustic" rural, etc. plus fireplace, but I can't find it now. Will keep searching.

Are you thinking of Mission Ranch? It's about a mile south of downtown and overlooks river beach and Point Lobos.

Hi Patty, Maybe I did find Mission Ranch when I was looking a few years ago. But it seems anything but rustic. Not exactly what I remember, but then again what day is it?

NewbE, You're right, Green Gables isn't rural, but nothing about Pacific Grove says "City" to me, which is why I recommended it - it's not rural, but it sure isn't urban LOL

Could it have been out in Carmel Valley? That's more rural.

Many places in Carmel have a 3-night minimum stay requirement on winter weekends.

One year, during Auto Week (August), we stayed a couple of nights at the Sea View Inn/B&B in Carmel. It's 3 blocks to the ocean and 5 blocks to Ocean Avenue. I'd stay there again. No TVs in the room, but free wifi. There are only 8 rooms, and I would call or email rather than use the online booking service.

My favorite place in Carmel is the Cypress Inn. They have a few rooms with fireplaces.

We've been to Green Gables Inn twice and absolutely love it there.
At this time of year, I am thinking it's pretty "remote." It isn't on a main street, but within sight and sound of the bay, I can't recommend it highly enough.

It's on Ocean View Boulevard, which is the main road that follows the coastline through Monterey and Pacific Grove. It's only a few minutes' walk, maybe half a mile, from Cannery Row, same distance in the other direction to PG's commercial area. Not in the least bit remote. Yes, you can see the Bay from its front--it's right across the road from it. In busy season that road and the bike path are crowded; in off season, less so.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it--OP seems to like the look of it. But it isn't "more rural or away from the city streets", which she said she would prefer.

The Normandy Inn is charming and quiet.

Another vote for the Normandy Inn, although we haven't stayed there in several years...

Quail Lodge in Carmel Valley fits your bill for quiet and out of the way but it isn't a bed and breakfast.

If Lincoln Green Inn is past your budget, Quail Lodge is way past it. BTW Normandy Inn is right on Ocean Ave in Carmel which is essentially the heart of Carmel and the busiest street in Carmel--so it does not fit your rural away from streets parameters either.

Have you checked out Asilomar? Certainly rustic, away from the "bright lights" so to speak, but not a B&B although you can get breakfast.

Quail has rooms for less than $300 a night in winter but if you don't think Mission Ranch is rustic, then you really won't find Quail rustic at all. Avoid the second weekend in February as it's AT&T Pro Am and many properties are already sold out.

W/ a budget Asilomar is a good suggestion -- but it does book up so there may not be any availability.
