B & B in Honolulu / area???
 

Does anyone have any recommendations based on first hand experience on B & Bs ( or B & B style hotels) in Honolulu or the Honolulu area? General web searches have not come up with anything other than glorious advertisements. <BR> <BR>Thanks, <BR>Michele

The Manoa Valley Inn was listed as one of Fodor's recommended lodging options, and I was happy to see it listed there. I have met the owner, because we live near the area, and she adheres to very high standards. The house is a large Victorian, and the lobby opens to a small garden, but I cannot describe the rooms, as I have not seen them. <BR> <BR>There are, as you know, several B&B web sites with listings for `Oahu, (you can find these at gohawaii.com) but I agree that you should make your choice based on actual first-hand information. The few B&B's I have seen in Kailua have varied tremendously in quality. <BR> <BR>If you need B&B recommendations for the Big Island, I have several favorites. Lani: <BR> <BR>The one I wasn't too impressed with was booked by a visiting mainland friend through Affordable Paradise B&B''s. It was definitely affordable at $40/night, but you get what you pay for. B&B's are sprouting up in many neighborhoods, and they aren't exactly regulated. So it's good to proceed with caution. <BR> <BR>Knowing your taste from previous posts, I think you'd be happiest with the choices that Hawaii's Best B&B's offers. If you want to be right on the beach, though, you might want to check vacation rentals, rather than B&B's. goldcoasthawaii.com and sandsea.com might be good starting points. <BR>Aloha, <BR>k

But maybe I'd be pleasantly surprised at some places??? <BR> <BR>Speaking of the Big Island, I love the Kilauea Lodge. Have you ever stayed there, Kalena?

Well, yes, but my friend was feeling exceedingly frugal, and our guest room was filled! <BR> <BR>We spent Thanksgiving at the Kilauea Lodge a few years ago. It's wonderful. We also like the Shipman House in Hilo. <BR>Happy travels! <BR>k
