AZ- Antelope Canyon

how difficult is the access to both the upper and lower canyons. how tight of a squeeze is it? how many stairs?

Upper section is flat but sandy, about the width of a sidewalk in places, wider in others. No stairs.

Lower section has a couple of 8-15 ft ladders and several smaller steps, with some tight passages that will make it tough for a fat person or one with bad knees.

It's hard to say how tight the squeeze will be. The canyons are different every year depending on how much water has gone through. Upper Canyon has no stairs - it's a flat, level walk. Upper is generally much easier to walk through - I don't remember doing any squeezing to get through.

Lower Antelope Canyon has ladders to enter and stairs to exit. You also enter through what looks like a crack in the ground. There were some places that I had to take off my daypack and squeeze through (40 inch waist). Other parts required contorting yourself a bit. But, as I said, it's different from year to year.

I have a couple of pictures of upper at www.flickr.com/photos/emalloy2009/sets in the 2008 set. Both the entrance and inside if you would like to see.

You can see my photos of Upper at: www.travelwalks.com

No stairs. It's a level walk in the park. Fifteen minutes from one end to the other plus stopping.

It's a 15 minute bumpy drive from the entrance in their truck.
