What about the Mankato thread & the one from the father who took his one year old on his first airplane flight.

bennnie Nov 18th, 2003 06:39 AM

Does anyone else remember the what should I have for lunch post? I got a big laugh out of that.

I remember the Maine haunted hotel story - I was dieing to read the next installment.

And I loved the 2 Londoners report of the SW. Very funny.

Any trip report that is about more than just what was consumed where is interesting. I like reading about peoples impressions of places. Its really hard sometimes to put words to what you are feeling so I admire those that can do it well.

If anybody @ Fodors is listening....how about compiling "Best of Fodors Posts" in your General Index (i.e.,where you have the various geographic areas, 'Other Topics', etc.) It's fun recalling the above mentioned posts & it wld be great for us to be able to readily access them!

My vote goes to roxy's trip reports. Can't wait till she goes somewhere again!

My personal favorite is the pilot tipping. There was one a few years ago where the topic line was something like "fjlp" -- and the creative people had a heyday. Loved the monkey thread, and anything about crispy pink jogging suits or haggis.

I also remember the spoiled bride-to-be who wanted the guests to fly to Hawaii, then disappear. I wouldn't call it award-winning (maybe thought-provoking).

OMG, thanks Austin! Working on a new one for Santa Cruz/San Francisco...with some forays into the great beast that is San Jose. Coming soon!

love
roxy

O.K., the guy who wants you to rent his motor home with HIM in it along for YOUR vacation must qualify for some sort of award, LOL!

I thought that the thread by the man who wants people to "sponsor" his trip to Alaska was funny.

travellyn Nov 19th, 2003 03:20 PM

Tipping the pilot. I loved that one, especially the part about using a Crown Royal bag.

I also loved the one about passengers having to fly naked, segregated by sexes, with only plastic spoons for the meal.

buckeyemom Nov 19th, 2003 04:02 PM

The Monkey thread was my favorite followed by Tipping the Pilot. How about the thread where the gal breaks up with her abusive boyfriend and wants to know if she should take him to Hawaii since the trip is already paid for.

Ditto on the Hawaiian Bride story
I also enjoyed the Clara and Herb Saga

gyppielou Nov 19th, 2003 04:16 PM

Clara and Herb? Pray tell!

And thanks all!!!

Love that Roxy! I'll be doing her kayak trip soon, and when I called they were in awe of her, mine wasnt' the first to use darling turn-it-on as the person recommending the trip. So kudos to darling Roxy!!!

What was the one about the guy or his father in law that didn't tip enough? Anyone remember? It was an upscale restaurant and the bill was around $1,000? Is this ringing a bell with anyone?

bennnie Nov 21st, 2003 05:15 AM

GoTravel - I remember that one. The guy said he was chased down the sidewalk by the waiter.

How about the sponser my trip post that's out there now. I love the responses.

There were also threads about "I was drunk the day my mother got out of jail" and "Moments of lunacy, moments of Zen" -- I think on the Europe board -- that were wonderful. Unfortunately, I think we've lost some of the most creative and whimsical people thanks to the creeps who take over a thread with political ranting or just plain thug-like nastiness, which makes Fodor remove the thread and it's lost forever in cyberspace.

Occasionally a troll thread comes along that prompts lots of really funny stuff, but the spoilers are out there and they've found this board. Too bad. I miss Elvira, whose funny trip reports were a delight. She deserved an award category all by herself.

Really Roxy? How soon is "Soon"???

Looking forward to it!

Strangest poster: Darvy Kuntz

Anyone see her post last Friday - the one with the poem about giving it to the boys? Weird, too weird. It's still out there too...

Neal_Sanders Nov 21st, 2003 06:28 AM

gyppielou, Clara and Herb were the stars of a Europe Forum thread that could only have existed in the pre-registration era. You can see it at http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...amp;tid=879167.

Is is truly a thread for the ages.

beachbum Nov 21st, 2003 10:28 AM

Just a thanks for the thread reference, Neal. Spent the better part of the morning reading what's easily the best I've seen on Fodors.

Scarlett Nov 21st, 2003 11:02 AM

OMG, Neal, thank you!! I forgot how truly funny that thread was..poor Simba :))
