Avoiding Spring Break in San Antonio

We're planning a trip to San Antonio St. Patrick's weekend and then touring to Austin, the hill country and then Corpus Christi and however much of the coastal area we have time for. We realize the BIG spring break for college students is the 11th to 18th of March and also the following week but not as much. My question is, is San Antonio rowdy at that time or just lots of people having a good time? I appreciate any answers that will clarify the situation for me. (Was young myself once but I've grown up.:-) )

Do kids really go to San Antonio for spring break? It's not a place I would think gets ANY Breakers. I would imagine them all driving the extra few hours to South Padre.

San Antonio itself doesn't get a lot of spring-breakers. Most go to Padre Island/South Padre. Generally, shouldn't be roudy - just a good time. Have fun.

The amusement parks, Sea World and Fiesta Texas, will see some action that week as well as the restaurants and movie theatres otherwise... I don't think of San Antonio as a Spring Break destination. It's the beach or bust, baby! ;-)

Thank you all! I kind of sensed they'd all like the freedom of the beach. I had called the visitors bureau and they said they get spring breakers but I can't see them staying at the Riverwalk hotels or better restaurants along the Riverwalk. I know we'll enjoy. Thanks for your input.

If you decide to throw a keg party while you're here be sure to let us know! :-D

Enjoy a great trip! :-)

Somehow "rowdy" is not a word I think of to describe SA, even when there is a big convention in town. Crowded, maybe, and every crowd has a loudmouth a**hole or two but overall SA is pretty mellow (a bellyful of fajitas and a few margaritas will do that). BTW, for St. Patrick's Day they dye the river green!

Seamus, I meant college kids can get rowdy. You really clarified that for me. San Antonio sounds great and with your name you should be there for St. Patrick's Day! And Ann Marie, a drink's on us at a watering hole along the Riverwalk!

We saw a few spring break students in the Corpus Christi area on Port Aransas Island but it was a very small group. I was hoping I could join in their festivities!!
