Avalon Hotel vs Shelburne Murray Hill

Hi there everyone. I'm having a little trouble deciding between the Avalon Hotel and the Shelburne Murray Hill. Both seem to have very favourable reviews and I have found similar deals for both with the Avalon being just a tiny bit more expensive (only by a few pounds). As far as I can see, the Avalon may slightly edge it on decor and modernity. Does anyone have any recommendations?

We stayed at the Avalon on November 23rd and 24th, and were very pleased with it. Our deluxe suite room was very spacious, and the location is very convenient. I posted a more complete review on TripAdvisor.

We were also at the Avalon from the 24th thru the 27th. We were very pleased with the accomodations and the service. We would definitely stay there again. We booked our room through Express Reservations - www.express-res.com. We paid $219/night for the deluxe suite.

Stayed at the Shelburne Murray Hill a couple of years ago and loved the hotel, service, room, and location.

Can you book a 1 bedroom suite in both cases at the similar price? Both hotels have very nice 1 bedroom suites. The Shelburne has a kitchen also in the suite. I think the Avalon includes breakfast if I remember correctly. I've had visitors stay in both on different occasions and they all were pleased.

Hi there, yes both hotels seem to offer what they call 'suites' at very similar prices. However, the Avalon suites do not have a kitchenette. They do look a little nicer in terms of decor, though. Looks like a tough call between the two!

The SHelburne also has what they call 'studio' suites, which is one big room and a small kitchen, their 1 bedroom suites do have a separate bedroom and living area (similar to Avalon), in addition to the small kitchen.

I also stayed at the Avalon over Thanksgiving. We had a junior suite (King + sofa bed). It was very nice, clean, and convenient. The only complaint I have is about the water pressure. It seemed to come and go at will. We would stay there again though.
