Avalon Hotel,NYC- Junior Suites
Hi,
I've been reading alot of good reviews of the Avalon Hotel and I have managed to get a pretty good rate for a Junior Suite there in Sept. Has anyone stayed in one of their Junior Suites and, if so, do they have one bed or two beds in them? Any information would be great... thanks |
anyone?????

Have you considered asking the hotel how many beds are in the room?
|
I would imagine they can have either depending on your preference. Have you read reviews on tripadvisor?
|
Hi,
yes, rang the hotel and the reservations desk was "unavailable", and the person I spoke with seemed unsure about how many beds, and then said "yeah, there are two beds, I think", which isn't the response I'd hoped for.The reviews for the hotel on Tripadvisor seem v. good but most mention one bed.. I was hoping someone out there might be familiar with the layout of these particular suites (whether there's always either two beds, or a bed and a sofa bed) and might give me some feedback.. I just don't want to be in a situation where I arrive and they tell me that the Junior suites are, in fact, one bed suites.... |
I really think that it depends on the junior suite you get/request. When we stayed there, we had a single bed, and I'm not sure the sofa folded out into a bed. But if you look at pics on Orbitz, they show rooms with both one large bed and two double beds. I would call Avalon back (at a different time of day to ensure different staff) to ask the question and update your reservation accordingly.
If you like cheese and/or wine, I highly recommend you drop by Artisanal a mere 2 blocks away. They have the biggest selection of cheese I've ever seen, and *every* wine they carry is available by the glass. One of the reasons I like Avalon is because of its proximity to Artisanal! :) |
Hi,.
Thanks beanweb24. I am guessing you were happy with your stay at the Avalon? Were you in a Junior Suite? Also, what kind of star rating would Avalon be?-- I have seen it listed on the web as either 3 stars or 4 stars.. Thanks also for the tip about the wine! |
Yes, we were in a junior suite. I thought the room and bathroom were huge, especially in comparison to our room at the W that was the size of a closet. The bathroom was much nicer than the main room portion - granite and other nice touches made it seem like it had enjoyed more careful attention in design. The room we stayed in was non-smoking, but it was clear upon getting off the elevator that there were smoking rooms also on our floor...but our room itself did not smell of smoke like the hallway did.
The hallway was a bit worn/tired, but the room itself was great (I thought). For the location and price, it would be hard to beat. I would rank it as a 3 star - definitely not a 4. But a very good value. The hotel seemed to cater to tour groups...nothing wrong with that - just an observation. |
Hi,
Thanks beanweb24. The Avalon does sound pretty good- I usually stay at the Belvedere, which isn't available for my upcoming trip- it's a three star and I've always been happy with it. So, I guess the Avalon sounds ideal for me-- as long as I can get the bed issue sorted! Thanks |
