Autumn stay on Cape Cod
 

Want to stay two weeks on the Cape in Sept or Oct after the summer season ends.Perhaps a cottage. I am a young 68 year old female and moderately active. Definitely not frail. Traveling with a friend. Long walks, easy two mile hikes, short bicycle jaunts, lots of golf are my normal activities. Will fly to Logan and drive. Love the ocean, beach, touristy shopping, and relaxing in a quiet atmosphere. Moderate priced casual local dining. Not a wine snob nor like to get all dressed up on vacation. Still I do not want fast food. Like Art, history, books, antiques.

Our favorite time on the Cape is late Sept. prices go down after Labor Day and then again on about the 21.
The last two years we swam in the bay in the last week of Sept. temps vary, usually in the sixties but look at wunderground.com for historical averages. One year it rained that whole week but generally it is a great sunny time.
We like the outer cape and always stay in Wellfeet or Truro on the bay side. We rent cottages .

It's great to be able to sit and watch the water. My friends and I have spent a lot of weekends together and we now prefer a cottage rental or a residence inn with cooking facilities. We want a decent LR area too. In this location we were still a long drive (South Yarmouth) to the ferry for a day trip to Martha's Vineyard (did not take the car).

I would choose September. Once you get into October chances of rain seem to increase by mid-month. It can be pretty rainy. I think September weather is nicer and warmer.

we often go in early/mid September. Its a beautiful time to be on the Cape, warm days, cool nights, still warm enough to swim. And generally things are still open, although you will find some things start to close or reduce their hours. Some restaurants might go to weekend-only schedules the later you get in the fall.

I like the outer Cape, we rent in Wellfleet. Although I remember seeing a few really nice condos in Provincetown that might be appealing as you can get harbor views, and still be in walking distance to town and restaurants. Take a look at weneedavacation.com, its a great site for Cape rentals. Oh, and I do think if you are planning 2 weeks you should look at a cottage or condo. It would be a drag to eat all your meals out for 2 weeks, and also having laundry facilities would be a plus, I should think.

Wherever you stay there will be a bike trail and bike rental place nearby.

We stayed on the Cape Columbus day weekend last year and it was perfect. We enjoyed Provincetown, the vineyard at Turo and Dennis Port. I would do it again in a heartbeat. We went and saw the cranberry bogs and took the ferry to Nantucket one day.
