Austin weekend in October
I will be spending the weekend in Austin in October, haven't been since mid-20's. Any suggestions on nightlife that doesn't involve the college crowd? (Not in mid-20's anymore!!) I love anything from jazz/blues to alternative live music.
Also, how about a restaurant for Saturday night, (one that would not be found in D/FW area). I am truly open to any new ideas for dining.

Which weekend? Just curious because if there is a UT Home football game, you'll need to make reservations ASAP, if they are needed.
Night life -I'd avoid 6th street. To find Jazz/Blues/Alternative, you might try Antones. Always good music there. It's in the Warehouse district - the 4th/Colorado area. Check the schedule at http://www.antones.net/
Another suggestion - The COntinental Club. Has a little of everything. http://www.continentalclub.com/Austin.html
Restuarants - My fave - and many others - is Castle Hill Cafe. Interesting dishes, nice wine list. Another is Vespaio (Italian, Pricey, long wait) Hudsons on the Bend (Amazing, the best in Austin, pricey, near the lake
Try the XL Dining guide for more ideas:

Austin: We will be there the w/e of the 15th. There must be something going on because several hotels were booked when I was trying to make reservations.
Antones seems to be quite popular - we'll definitely try it out. I've always partied on 6th St. but am looking forward to trying the warehouse district, have not been there.
I heard Salt Lick is pretty good for dining, (BBQ?) and will most definitely check into Vespaio and Hudsons, they sound wonderful for a Saturday night dinner.
Thanks again!

You can get more info on Austin in another post here on Fodors by capo.
Salt Lick is great! It's a BYOB place, just an fyi. It's out of town a bit in Driftwood, but worth the drive. A favorite of many. They catered our wedding. Also, if you go, grab some of their seasoned rub - great on chicken and beef. I use it all the time.
