Austin romantic dinner
Hi All
I would really appreciate some recommendations for a romantic dinner in Austin. My husband and I are running the marathon - so our Valentine's dinner will be on Sunday the 15th after the run. We will go to Oasis for a drink and watch the sunset - where to from there. A nice cosy place - maybe seafood? |
I've been in Austin for a week now and really can't help you with food (most of the places I've eaten are good, but not too romantic).
However, I wanted to wish you good luck on the marathon! I've been training for the L.A. marathon and have seen tons of people out here running...they must be training too! |
Thank you so much!!!
...and wish you all the best for your marathon as well. |
I've read wonderful things about the "Colombe D'Or."
|
Thanks cigalechanta Will check it out...
Is there an Austin equivalent of the Dallas Guidelive listings? Thanks |
If you are going to the Oasis to watch the sunset, then I reccommend Hudson's on the Bend after that. It's nearby on RM 2222, over the Mansfield Dam. It's expensive, but the best restaurant in the Austin area, and very romantic! You probably need reservations.
The food is creative and ecclectic. Service wonderful. Excellent wine list. Here is the website. http://hudsons.citysearch.com/ Check out that menu! (If prices aren't listed, main courses are $20 - $30, appetizers average about $10) |
FYI - the Colombe D'Or is in Houston. Chigalechanta you got the state right tho! ;-)
|
Shoot! thanks Austin!!

Austin
Thanks sounds great - will check it out!!! How about Shoreline grill - is that nice? Is it too far from Oasis? |
Shoreline Grill is very nice and romantic, overlooking Town Lake. It is right next door to the Four Seasons hotel. I haven't been there in a while but the last time I was there, the food was very good. I think their menu is online.
My favorite romantic restaurant in Austin is Chez Nous at 510 Neches, just off of 6th street (and next to Forbidden Fruit). It is a small restaurant, very cozy, and they have a great prix fixe menu. Another good place is Carmello's on 5th street. Very romantic with tasty italian food. Good luck on the marathon and have fun! |
I agree with Hudson on the Bend. Very cozy, very romantic, excellent food and service, and very pricey! I live very close to the Oasis (can see it from my house) and go to Hudson's on the Bend for many 'special occasions' because it's so close.
Shoreline Grill is another good one, but not at ALL close to the Oasis. It's located downtown, as is Chez Nous and Carmello's. So, if you are staying downtown, Shoreline is a good option. I'll throw in another one, 'Zoots". Had a very lovely valentine's dinner there one year and thought it was very romantic. It's also close to downtown, but not IN town. |
I forgot to add, you can check out romantic (and other) restaurants and reviews at

Hudson's looks wonderful - but if we decide not to drive out to Oasis - (the excruciating pain factor after the marathon :) I guess we will go to Shoreline
Thanks all for the responses. |
Indie, if it's a pretty day, you simply MUST go to the Oasis for sunset. It's 'The Sunset Capital of Texas', you know!
|
Some more suggestions for romantic restaurants:
Jeffrey's Chez Zee La Fonda San Miguel Ruth's Chris Castle Hill Cafe Z Tejas (not too romantic but sort of) Fun but definitely NOT romantic: Chuy's or Guero's for Mex food Enjoy the marathon! |
Just to say thanks all for the responses. Am back from Austin - relatively pain free :)
Ally we did go out to Oasis - saw a gorgeous sunset - actually also got to see the sun rise that day at the start of the run - beautiful. We then came back to downtown to eat at SHoreline - that menu appealed more to hubby. It was great. Austin is a beautiful place - eny those of you who live there. |
Glad you enjoyed your short visit! I guess you got to see the snow too? VERY strange for Austin. It was breathtaking out at the lake.
