austin or houston for 4 days?

Two cold nothernerns are getting away for some Texas fun and heat in March. Should I look into Austin or Houston? These seem to be my only nonstop flight choices from PHL.

The rodeo is the most fun thing going on in Houston in February and March. Check it out and see if any of the performers appeal to you. Also, check out www.mfahouston.org Houston is the only stop for the Met's Masterpieces of French Painting. You can't depend on the weather being hot, though.

Nothing against Houston, but I think Austin is a super nice city.

Well I'm a little :-D biased but I think Austin is a lot more fun than Houston. It's also smaller which makes it an easy getaway. But, like maryanntex said, you can't depend on having heat in March. It can be in the 70's or it can be freezing. You just never know.

Also depends on when in March. March is BUSY! South By Southwest, Rodeo, and sometimes Basketball tournaments. If u are coming during SXSW you might have a hard time finding a room.

And AT is right. Sometimes its downright chilly in March. Try closer to the end of march if you can. Increase your chances for warm weather...But still no guarantees.

Good point Austin, I forgot about SXSW. It's March 9-18 this year. Forget about trying to get a room during that time!

Maryanntex is right about two great thigs going on in Houston during March. I live in Houston and spend a lot of time in Austin. They are an easy 2.5 hour drive apart. Five days and you could rent a car and do an open jaw ticket into one and out of the other. Houston is very diverse, fine art to rodeo with great shopping and food (i.e., The Galleria and Da Marco's). Austin is a beautiful city with a more laid back, college town feel. It's your preference.

There's a lot more to see and do in Austin.

If you want to do outdoor type of stuff ....hikes,canoe etc I would go to Austin. The greenbelt is great place to hike, canoe Town Lake, etc

I agree that if you are looking for more outdoorsy things to do, then Austin is your best bet. If you prefer more indoor things like museums and such, then Houston would fit the bill.
