Austin Hotels

I'm visiting Austin with my boyfriend 4/12-4/16, and am looking for a fun hotel in downtown w/in walking distance to shopping and restaurants. My boyfriend has a disability and can't walk long distances. Does anyone have an opinion on the Austin Motel? Is the Dillo easy to use? If not, are taxis easy to come by? Thanks!

I love the Austin Motel and that's where we always stay when they have availability - hopefully you aren't too late for mid April. It's kitchy-tacky in decor, but is clean.

Great location also - lots w/in easy walking distance on S Congress. The 'Dillos are easy - just look for the signs so you'll know where to stand (they are color-coded) - Austin Motel usually has a map showing the 'Dillo routes. But the 'Dillos run infrequently, so if you are in a hurry - you might want to take a cab.

Thank you, are taxis easy to find?

I've never taken a taxi in Austin since I always have my car...But S Congress is a very busy street - it should be no problem at all. And I'm sure the front desk would call a cab for you.

Taxis downtown are very easy to get. If you leave the central area, you'll have to call one for a pick-up, but shouldn't be a problem. Have fun!

The Austin Motel is great. The Hotel San Jose is about a block from the Austin Motel and Very Nice!
