Austin

CONGRATULATIONS

Sorry--Couldn't resist the urge any longer and had to say it. That was the best game I've ever seen! I thought for a moment I'd broken my wrist high-fiving my husband at the end. :)

Isn't it reassuring that not all Texans on the national scene are losers? ;-)

I've lived in Texas for 24 years - all in Dallas - no UT allegiances, alhough my niece is a student there.

What amazes me is the UT tower, that is only lit when they win a national championship. I actually saw it lit in about 1983, when they won the college world series. Anybody know when they started that tradition? It takes a lot of you know what to have a tower that you only light when you win a national championship...If my undergrad had such a tower, I don't think it would have ever been lit in the history of the school. Yet UT lights it up ever so often...

Even this Sooner has to applaud the Horns for a great game. Vince Young is da man!

BTW, Austin is a favorite town.

Malesherbes Jan 5th, 2006 09:55 AM

Seamus...LOL. That was a mouthful!

missypie...hopefully someone else will chime in (ar ar) on this as I'm not too sure of all the occasions under which it's lit. I seem to recall its being lit after normal football victories though, while our daughter was there (freshman and sophomore years before transferring to A&M!! @-))We stayed at a hotel across the lake so only saw the top but I recall it's being lit orange after a football win. Graduation too. It has a carillon as well that chimes periodically.

It has history...not all of it good, unfortunately!

designmr...our Aggie SIL could barely muster a smile for them. Good for you! Me of little faith, I never thought they'd pull it out. Young was absolutely incredible.

Hello from Austin, Texas - home of the National Champion Longhorns! Thank you for your good wishes. It was a great game by both sides. But that #10 was awesome!

It was indeed a special night in Texas and especially in Austin!

HOOK 'EM HORNS!

Thank you so much for that lighting link Kopp--very interesting, and far more complicated than I'd have ever guessed!

Well, malesherbes, rooting for the Horns wasn't completely out of goodwill -- we have a 47-game win streak to protect !;) But I also think Mack Brown is a good guy and deserved to get the monkey off his back. Next year, it's back to branding iron :):)

Way to go Longhorns!

Our oldest daughter had a unique experience. She's in her second year at A&M but has been visiting friends in California this last week.

Her best friend attends USC and they all went to The Game. She didn't know who to cheer for! (And she still hasn't told me either!)
