Aussie travelling to vegas on business
Can anyone please suggest accommodation close to the Sands Expo Convention center? I'm arriving on a Sat. and Casinos on the strip forbid a Sat. check-in, for some unknown reason? Thanks

The Rivieria is close and may not have the same restrictions as the larger casinos. The Las Vegas Hilton is also right next door. There's a few smaller hotels right in that area, but the names escape my memory.
There was a thread not too long ago that gave a great website for people in town for conventions... Try using the search function to find it. |
No, no, no...the SANDS Convention Center is NOT near the Hilton or Sahara. Please disregard the above.
The SCC is connected to the Venetian. It'ssouth of the Venetian, east of the Strip. So you could stay at one of the non-strip hotels east of the SCC and you'd be fine. They will usually allow Saturday check-in. There's a decent Embassy Suites a half mile east of the SCC, and numerous other options. Check the SCC website for info regarding hotel options based on your meeting dates. There's a convenient search function here: http://www.conventioncenterhotelsgui...on_hotels.html |
Residence Inn Hughes Center, or the new Westin Casuarina Hotel are walking distance (long block).
You might try to book something that is cancellable up until 4pm same-day. That way you can phone the strip hotels on Saturday morning and probably find one with an opening. It's not that they don't allow Saturday check-in, it's that they'd rather book both Fri and Sat together. Treasure Island, Venetian, Stardust, Harrahs - all might end up with a room open come Saturday a.m. |
you'd do well to contact the convention organizers to see whether and at which hotels they've got preferred rates. the westin is very nice, by the way. i couldnt' belive the beds. i don't typically sleep well in hotels, after my wake up call i went back to sleep!

Ted, you're right. Sorry about that- I was thinking of the OTHER convention center. :">
What about the little motel directly across from the TI? The Scottish Inn or something like that? I've never stayed there, nor do I know if it's a good place... Anyone? |
