August temperatures in Yellowstone?

I checked "World Climate" for Yellowstone and it reported average temps in Aug at 53 degrees. I checked for Cody and it reported 60's and yet someone I spoke with making reservations for dinner, reported it had been hot. I'm confused.

According to Weather.com

http://www.weather.com/outlook/trave...3?climoMonth=8

In Yellowstone the average high is about 70 degrees and average low is in the mid 30's and the average mean temp is in the 50's. Days should be warm and nights cool.

Plus, there is much less atmosphere between you and the sun than there is at sea level. So radiation can heat your skin even when the air temperature is relatively mild.

Be sure to protect yourself from sunburn - it can happen quickly in the mountains.

A point I never considered before.

On any given summer day, the weather at various times can range by as much as 45-50 degrees...from an early-morning cold of 40 degrees or less to a mid-to-late-afternoon temperature in the mid-80s or higher.
