August...reservations a MUST?

My almost 4 year-old daughter and I are going on a 5 night Windjammer sail out of Rockport ME. From August 3rd to the 13th we're open. I'd like to see Acadia National Park and some of the other coastal areas. Will there be openings at the inns/hotels or should I get reservations for the entire trip now? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Absolutely mandatory for weekends in the area you describe and highly advised for weekdays. Many hotels in the area are open only from May to October, and when they're open, they're packed.

I agree. Oct-June, no reservations needed. July & September, reservations couldn't hurt. August - reservations a MUST!

I can't answer your question, but I hope you LOVE the Windjammer. My husband and I did that for our 10th anniversary in August 2001. It was an awesome trip. We were on the Mercantile out of Camden. One of my favorite vacations ever. Be sure to pack light for the boat, there is no need for a lot of clothes and no place to stow them anyway.

Have a great time!!!!

You must have reservations before you go. We will be leaving on Saturday for our 15th year trek for two weeks in Maine. Rockport is just next door to Camden. We have been in the Chamber of Commerce/Tourism Office many a times picking up material when they say to the people without reservations - everything is booked solid. This is in July! Good luck.

Boothbay Harbor has some hands on lobster boats that are great for children. It also has the Dept. of Maine Research with touch tanks for children. Boothbay Harbor is about an hour or so south on the penisula. Rachel Carson's salt ponds are on the penisula as well.
Acadia National Park has three different oceanariums that are unique. There is so...much to see and do there.
Camden is another place to visit. Camden-Rockport-Lincolnville Chamber of Commerce phone number is: (207)236-4404
What is the boat you are sailing on?
