August in Arizona?
 

My fiance and I are planning an August 2007 honeymoon and have been looking at the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. We're hoping to find a resort/hotel that has fairly secluded rooms and a good sized pool (since it will be hot after all). Any suggestions or other destinations?

Phoenix wouldn't be my choice in August because of the heat. Sedona would be a bit cooler and has plenty of resort-type accomodations. Flagstaff and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon would have nice temps, but they'd probably both be a bit more rustic than you're hoping.

My family went to AZ two summers ago, and had a wonderful time. We spent time in Sedona, the south rim of the Grand Canyon (where it was cooler in the morning that it had been that summer at our home in upstate NY), Canyon de Chelly and then back to Scottsdale for two days prior to our flight back home from Phoenix. It was indeed very warm in Phoenix but the rest of the trip was fine. One great thing is that we stayed at the Phoenician for $179/night in very nice rooms. They have several pools that are wonderful. The minute you sit down they bring you towels and ice water. I would not have wanted to stay there for a week, however. With the heat your choices are pretty much swimming or mall shopping. There is much more to see and do in AZ and I would highly recommend it.

my honeymoon began in Arizona in August. Altho it has been many years, we stayed at the Camelback Inn in one of the casitas. seculded. very nice pool

I agree with other posters, on spending just a little time in Scottsdale during August. Sedona, Grand Canyon and Flagstaff are all great spots in the summer.

It is bloody hot in August but there are incredible deals on 5 star resorts in Phoenix/Scottsdale area..The Phoenician, The Biltmore, The Sanctuary and either the Fairmont or the Boulders are all lovely properties and for around $200 a night for a room that would usually go for $600-800+ in high season..
The Enchantment Resort in Sedona is stunning and a perfect place to honeymoon..
I live in San Diego and La Jolla is perfect in August but it is not cheap..The Grande Colonial Hotel or La Valencia are beautiful hotels..

I agree, in August you can get great deals although if you have to plan that far ahead, I'm not sure they'll be posted yet. I'm local and we usually go to a resort sometime in the summer to take advantage of the rates. If you are just looking to hang out at a nice location, with good pool you should consider the http://www.wildhorsepassresort.com/. Its a bit south of phoenix and is secluded. You'll need a car to get there and out. Has great restaurants and pool.
