August honeymoon in Hawaii - no kids

My fiance and I are going to honeymooning in Hawaii in August. We will be there 10 days. I was thinking of spliting the trip between Maui and Kauai. From all that I have read, it looks like the Princeville on Kauai is a must but I am really confused about where to stay on Maui. We are really looking for an upscale resort without kids (or very few). Almost everything I've read about the resorts on Maui say that they are loaded with kids (especially in August). Does anyone have any suggestions of where we could stay on Maui that is beautiful, on the beach and does not cater to children?

All hotels will cater to kids/families, but the more expensive or more secluded you go would have less.

On Maui, you could look into the following:
Ritz
Kapalua Bay
Kea Lani
Maui Prince
4S
Renaissance

My girl friend and I traveled to Maui last summer without kids. We stayed at the Ritz Carlton in Kapalua and it was mostly all couples with a few kids but nothing like the other resorts that others have posted are over run with kids. It was peaceful, beautiful and romantic. Also we checked out the adjacent property, the Kapalua Bay Hotel. It also appeared to be a peaceful, couple oriented hotel not over-run with kids.

I think you would enjoy either one. Most people I know with kids like to go to the Kaanapali area which when we visited was highly populated with families, kids and teenagers.

Also in my opinion, the beaches at Kapalua are much nicer than the beaches at Kaanapali. And ask Snorkel Bob's to guide you to the best snorkeling spots in the Kapalua area. They are abundant with beautiful fish and not over-run with tourists.

Have a great trip!

Honestly from what I've read on this forum ALL the hotels are overrun with kids and it does not matter if they are the Four Seasons, Ritz, Westin, or what. I've been to Maui many times but never when school was out so kids were limited in numbers. Maybe postponing the honeymoon till the kids are back in school in Sept. is an idea -- take a nice weekend after the wedding and then go away when you know they are back in class. Just a thought.

We were at the Kapalua Bay Hotel in late May, and I may have seen 1 toddler the entire time...and that was in the pool. The rest of the time, we saw or heard none, and only passed other adults here and there! It was like we had the whole place to ourselves.

My trip to the Kapalua Ritz and visit to Kapalua Bay hotel was during prime summer vacation kid time and neither was "over-run" with kids.
