Auditorium Theater, Chicago - seating?
Want to purchase tickets for Joffrey Ballet, and I need info on the seating.
First, are the floor/orchestra seats obstructed in any way? I've been to ballets all over the country, and have paid premium $ for floor seats, only to see the back of someone's head because the floor doesn't slope. Also -- how far back is the first balcony, and is the from there generally good? thanks for any info! |
I'm going to bump this up once or twice and hope someone responds -- :)

I am going to the Joffrey on Friday! Yeah... We have a lower right box which is amazing, but I have been to other shows there and the floor and first balcony are both very good. I don't remember any obstructed seat, but you might want to ask when you buy them. We actually sat in the front row for a ballet a few years back and I felt we where too close (orchestra). Here is a link to the seating chart. http://www.gotickets.com/seating_cha...ting_chart.php

Hi Rocky --
Thanks for replying. I'm buying my seats online -- I wasn't aware there was a direct theater box office? Right now, balcony 1, first row center is available, which seem like very good seats. But from the pictures I've seen of this facility, the balcony looks waay back. Accoustically this would be fine -- but ballet is so visual that I'm worried we won't have a good view of the dancers. Orchestra row p is also available -- but this too seems far back -? I'm probably worrying too much -- but this is my dd 1st time to see Joffrey and I want it to be special! |
I've read various reviews and I'm still confused! Most claim that orchestra seats are the only ones w/ full stage views.
Can anyone tell me how far back the 1st balcony is, and whether any "overhang" obstructs the lower level seats? From the seating chart it looks like 20 rows or so - ? |
The Auditorium has one of the finest theatre designs in the country: engineering by Dankmar Adler, design by Louis Sullivan and some uncredited work by a very young Frank Lloyd Wright. There are no interior columns, and all the seating is gently pitched. I happen to think the front of the first balcony has some of the best seats because the view angles slightly down on the dancers. My next preference would be for the middle third of the main floor, but I have even sat in the nosebleed seats and enjoyed the show.

Note to Rocky: was the JB fun? How long did the show last?
