ATV - Zion or Bryce
Which 'park' would be better for a 2-3 hour ATV tour?
Thanks Valerie |
Just so you know, there are no ATV tours IN either of the parks that I know of. The tours would be of the areas around the park. There are horseback rides in both parks. I have never done either ATV or horseback.

Hi Valerie,
Just my STRONG opinion here, but skip the ATV tours. ATVs do severe, irrepairable damage to our delicate desert environment. They are also very noisy. Far from a "natural" experience. If you want to enjoy the parks, get out and walk under your own power. You will see tiny flowers, all types of wildlife. ATVs scare the animals and reptiles away, long before you ever see them.... |
I agree with Dayle. I would skip the ATV tour too. You have such a short time for both of these parks that it would best be used in the parks on walks or just sitting and soaking in the scenery.

Although I agree w/ the other posters that the best way to see the sights- and for the environment-is to hike, you don't mention if you already have hiking and horseback riding planned. We were in both parks in '04 w/ plenty of hiking in both and horseback riding in Bryce and tubing the Virgin River in Zion. However, we also went ATVing outside the park in a similar canyon near Bryce. My boys all loved it - my 14 yo still talks about it! It was fun, and we survived w/o incident, but it is dangerous! Put me on a horse or my own feet anytime!

We are planning on hiking and I too would rather horseback ride but my husband weighs too much for the horseback riding, so we can’t do that. I was thinking it’d be something he would enjoy and that I wouldn’t be afraid of: (I refused to ride mopeds in Bermuda and we had to take the bus. I know he was disappointed.)
I guess we’ll play it by ear. Thanks |
