Atttractive Budge Hotel Manhattan

Hello.....Does any one have ideas for a small attractive budget hotel in mid-Manhattan for one person for three days? Is it possible to find anything decent under $200 per night. Many thanks in advance.

In October or early December, no?

When is your trip?

It depends on what you mean by attactive. There are a number of small hotels - almost B&Bs - downtown, with a european feel and probably a shared bath - that you could get within that budget.

If you mean attractive - as new, modern and with a lot of amenities - I can;t think of anything even close.

I am going to be there for three nights Nov 10 - Nov 13.

Check out priceline.com You might score a decent place on that board!

Those are expensive dates. Not only do I not see anything under $200, it's hard to find anything decent for under $300! I agree that you could well get a room through Priceline (if you don't know how to bid go to betterbidding.com or biddingfortravel.com)

You should book something cancellable now should Priceline not work. The best option I can find is the Herald Square Hotel has a new (newly renovated) queen room for $205 plus tax. YOu'd have up to 24 hrs. before your arrival to cancel.

A search on Quickbook.com found three Manhattan hotels in your price range -- the Gershwin, Wolcott and Envoy Club, Nov 10 for three nights. I have not personally stayed in any of these hotels. Maybe others can comment on location and quality although they look nice enough from phots and Quickbook isn't an organization that deals with sleazy properties. Check the hotels on TripAdvisor.com for travelers reviews.

The Wolcott can be ok, but the rooms I've seen haven't been updated in a while, and the hotel is definitely faded; it gets a lot of British package tourists. The Gershwin tends to get realtively young and loud guests, but it's a cute and trendy hotel (that also has some hostel floors); make sure you get at least a standard or superior rooms and be prepared for rather lax service standards. I don't know the Envoy Club, so I can't comment on it. I know both the Gerswhin and Wolcott are reviewed on this site.

I forgot to mention one hotel I like very much that might be in your price range. It's called the Larchmont and it's on 11th Street in Greenwich Village. There are a very few double rooms with private baths, though the hotel is probably already sold out for November. (Most rooms have shared baths, so if you can deal with that, this htoel is a bargain.) The Chelsea Savoy at 23rd Street and 8th Avenue is also a relative bargain for New York and might be under $300 if it's not sold out.

I hope it's ok to jump in on this thread with a related question: I'm traveling single to NYC and need one night at a CHEAP hotel or B&B. I could care less about any amenities. Only requirement is that it is in a safe area and is relatively clean. I guess it doesn't have to be right in the center of everything (although I'd prefer that) so long as it has convenient safe subway access. I'll be there around Oct 11 or 12 and would like to keep the price under $200. Thanks for any suggestions.

The most convenient, relatively inexpensive place that I can think of is the Comfort Inn Long Island City. It's not in Manhattan, but it is within easy walking distance of the subways at Queensoboro Plaza (the elevated trains), which are close to Manhattan; it's another block or so from the Queens Plaza stop (the underground lines). The Chelsea Savoy has a few very tiny singles, as does the Larchmont (but the Larchmont has shared baths, which doesn't do it for most people).

The Wall Street Inn (I think that is the name) is a great place downtown. More like a B&B than a hotel.

I've also had a great experience with The Milford Plaza.

Try The Apple Core hotel group and The Travel Inn.
