Attire Il Mulino NYC
I have reservations for Il Mulino on Monday and wondering what the attire is. I've been to the one is Las Vegas and it was business casual. Do you think we can get away with that again?
|
yes
|
What do you mean by business casual? (I thought I knew what it was - but more and more people seem to think it means jeans, sneakers and golf shirts.)
|
I don't consider that to be business casaul. Nice pants and a nice top, but more comfortable clothing. Not suits or dresses.
|
You will be fine in what you described.
|
Absolutely correct - that is bus cas - and it will be fine!
|
My only suggestion is that you make sure you have an expandable waist to whatever you're wearing. The main thing about the food there is the size of the portions -- bordering on the "obscene".

Couldn't resist responding .. We were just there last Saturday evening .. We waited 1 1/2 hours for our reserved table .. My husband wanted to leave .. but my son insisted we stay ... The food was wonderful .. but can I say .. the tables are tight at best .. service was good .. but at times rushed .. and although several woman were dressed to kill .. most were very casual including jeans ... ! I would go back .. but there are a lot of other places especially in NYC I would return to before going there .. !

I'm keep on reading that even though you have reservations there is still a long wait. My husband and I are pretty patient people, so we'll just have a drink and wait. I can't wait to try it, though.

I would suggest you don't get your hopes up too high. Actually we had fantastic service, and our wait was minimal with reservations. But our food was HORRIBLE. Apparently it was an off night for the chef or trouble in the kitchen. Even the waiter looked at our bowls of watery pasta and said "that doesn't look right" but he couldn't taste the horrible raw flour taste from where they apparently tried to thicken it -- it was a mess. And it went downhill foodwise from there. The rack of "baby" lamb looked like it came from a full grown horse (and tasted about like it too), despite it was enough to serve four instead of one, and my veal chop had unspecified foie gras added to an already complicated preparation of fontina cheese and wild mushrooms. I'm only guessing there was really veal under all the stuff that assaulted my taste buds, who would know? Something though looked like a chop being served to Fred Flintstone. As I said it was all about the size of the portions.

The last time I went, I wore jeans HOWEVER, I wore them with stilettos, a very dressy off the shoulder blouse, my hair up, and long earings. |
Hi GoTravel, your description of what you wore with jeans matches what a lot of women now wear in SF - even in expensive restaurants. Dressy tops, beautiful stiletto's, wonderful jewerly etc.
And jeans can not cost up to $400.00 so they are not the Levi jeans of years ago. |
Did you see the Today Show this morning? They did a segment on expensive jeans and how they now 'go' anywhere. I cannot fathom $600 on custom blue jeans. My Seven jeans were all I could handle and my Paper, Denim, & Cloth were on sale. Cripers! |
Hi GoTravel, no I did not see the TV segment but I would believe anything. And I did mean to write "now" instead of "not".
Anyway, I think that any place that does not allow jeans will be a bit behind the times considering how "in" jeans are. Cripers is right, LOL. Take care. |

I was thinking of dressing like that, but the long earrings make my neck look stubby. Would simple diamond studs be out of place? |
Hi Patrick, diamond studs would be perfect, but only if you remember to shave!
|
My ears?
|
Oh Patrick. You cracked me up again.
|
Patrick, just make sure the nose and ear hairs are groomed and in place:-D (overheard Mr.GoTravel cursing at the mirror this morning about the onset of those very things at a certain age and I hope they bypass meX() |
