ATMs in Vegas
 

Other than in the casinos are there ATMs available? I know that the ATMs in casinos have a hefty fee to use them, if there are others around do they also have the hefty fees?

The hotel lobbies have plenty of ATM's, the fees were around $2 if I remember correctly.

We couldn't find a Bank of America ATM on the strip--we drove a couple miles to use one.

The ATM's in Vegas are everywhere but all have a hefty fee unless you find a Washington Mutual bank off the strip a few miles. Fees range from $2.00 if you get real lucky, to $3.00 at most ATM's, to $4.00 at some.

This is Vegas baby! Land of everyone with their hand out, 24 hour gambling, slots at the airport, topless everything...

If you are concerned about spending less than 1 red chip at the ATM, this is not the place for you.

I don't know what a red chip is--I don't gamble--but Las Vegas is a great sightseeing adventure even if you don't gamble.

I don't like to pay ATM fees, so I make sure I have plenty of cash in my pocket before checking into my hotel.

That makes some sense but for those of us with a weakness for slots and other temptations, it is a nice "block" to have to go get more money out of an ATM, than it is to open the wallet and remove more cash. Las Vegas is one place I feel much better NOT having a lot of cash. It is the "one armed" bandits I worry about stealing my money, not the usual pickpockets.

You will find that most major banks have branches within a short distance of the strip. If you have a car, you shouldn't have any trouble finding a B of A, Wells Fargo, US Bank, etc., etc. Check your bank's website for locations before you come.

Banks don't set up branches on or within walking distance of the strip so be prepared to pay a $3.00 fee to use a hotel atm, in addition to whatever your bank may charge to use a foreign atm.

Also, many of them only spit out $100's.

Las Vegas is one place where getting stuck with all $100 bills means nothing. Any casino cashier will change them free into whatever you want.

Hi--we just got back from LV a week ago. The ATM in our hotel charged not only a flat fee of $3--in addition to whatever your own bank might charge you--but also an additional 1.5% of whatever amount you withdrew.....

Where was that Socialworker? I never heard of that before.....

In the Venetian, near the elelvators that go up to the rooms. I cannot speak for any other machine than that one...We were curious, thinking we might take out a little extra cash, but once we read all the charges, we decided against it.

Wow, that's amazing. Usually there is only a percentage charge when you withdrawl from your credit card.

travelinwifey, if you use your credit card to get cash don't you pay interest from the moment you get the cash?

These are additional fees from the teller. In Las Vegas I believe you pay a fee from the ATM, a percentage depending on how much, and then the credit card company charges you for the cash withdrawl. Now I'm curious. I will double check exactly what the fees are to withdrawl via credit card via an ATM. That's why I was surprised, I thought LV ATM's only charged a percentage for credit card withdrawls.

Well, travwifey...now you have me wondering if I read the machine correctly, but I *think* I did.....but I suppose I thought that I was reading about debit card fees when I was inadvertently looking at CC fees, but if so, DH and I were both equally misled.

In some casinos there is an option to post an ATM withdrawal as a 'point of sale' transaction. This is because some people exceed their daily atm withdrawal limits and 'need' access to more cash. In this case, there would be an additional percentage charge for this service.

You would have to be pretty desperate to use it.

My guess is that the previous poster just pressed the wrong button, if in fact they just wanted to perform a normal atm withdrawal.

I've never seen a machine charge a fee higher than $3.00 for a normal withdrawal. This fee is of course in a addition to any fees your bank will charge you.
