Atlantis submarine Maui vs. Reef Dancer semi-sub

I'm looking for opinions on the submarine vs. semi-sub on Maui. I've done the Atlantis submarine in Grand Cayman and it was okay. I've also done a semi-sub in Turks and Caicos and we actually saw more sealife. I would skip both on Maui but we have a family member that doesn't snorkel and really wants to do one of these. How would you compare these two on the locations they visit, regarding how much coral and other sealife you will see?

The semi-sub tour we did once on Maui was a complete disappointment. We puttered around the Lahaina docks and saw mostly trash and dead coral. A diver swam alongside the boat and tried to point out interesting sea life, but frankly, there just wasn't much there.

The only reason we've never tried the Atlantis full submarine (about which I've read great reviews) is because I'm too claustrophobic to try it.

Thanks iowagirl. I have read a few other reviews of the semi-sub that said the same thing. Bummer, since we enjoyed the semi-sub in Turks and Caicos so much. I guess it really depends on where they go.

Anyone have any experience with the Atlantis submarine in Maui?

By the way, I don't remember the submarine feeling that much more closed in than the semi-sub. But you don't have the option of going to the top if you do feel clustrophobic when you're on the submarine like you do on a semi-sub.

Oops, meant claustrophobic not clustrophobic. Typing too fast on my lunch break...

Trust me, if I got to feeling too claustrophobic in a submarine, I'd FIND a way out! :D

We're heading back to Maui for our annual week-long trip in February, and if we do any kind of water excursion, it will be on a nice big OPEN boat.

LOL, iowagirl. Maybe you're not a candidate for a submarine after all! Hope you have a great trip in February.
